WORKSHOP: PHYSICAL THEATRE

THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON

SCHOOL OF DANCE, THEATRE AND ARTS ADMINSTRATION

 Participants will be introduced to the basic principles of physical
theatre and adapting non-dramatic material for the stage.  The New World
Performance Lab members will lead participants through a series of
exercises and structured improvisations. Stories from the Sherwood
Anderson novel, WINESBURG, OHIO will be used in exercises.   There will
be a written evaluation of the experience.=20

 The day will culminate with a performance of WINESBURG, OHIO and a
panel discussion.  Members of the panel include: Will Schuck, director
of the Sherwood Anderson Literary Center, Margaret Lynch, Cleveland area
playwright, dramaturge and co-director of the Cleveland Theatre
Collective and Thomas Dukes, Professor of English at The University of
Akron.
