MORE INFORMATION: The Cleveland Music School Madrigal Singers

The Cleveland Music School Settlement Madrigal Singers is a dynamic =
group of eight to ten singers who perform music from the Medieval, =
Renaissance and Baroque eras.

Under the direction of early music specialist Coeli Ingold, this unique =
ensemble offers singers the opportunity to focus on beautiful but =
rarely-heard vocal music from the 14th through the 18th centuries. This =
ensemble is ideal for the enthusiastic, intermediate-to-advanced amateur =
singer who has had previous choral experience and wants to hone his or =
her choral skills in a small ensemble.=20

Prior seasons have explored music from Medieval and Renaissance Italy, =
lute songs of John Dowland and his contemporaries, music of the Italian =
Jewish composer Salomone Rossi, and Medieval and Renaissance carols. =
Each enrollment period culminates in community performances.=20

More than just another choral group, the ensemble offers singers the =
following opportunities:=20

Weekly rehearsals with a specialist in the field. Soprano Coeli Ingold, =
director of The CMSS Madrigal Singers, holds a Master's Degree in Early =
Music Performance Practice from Case Western Reserve University, where =
she specialized in the research and performance of Renaissance and =
Baroque Music under the renowned soprano Julianne Baird. She has been a =
member of several professional ensembles, including the Cleveland =
Camerata, Old Stone Singers, the Ganassi Ensemble, and Laudisti Vocal =
Quintet, and is currently active as soloist in recital, opera, and =
oratorio.

Leadership roles in music-making. The small, intimate nature of the =
ensemble encourages singers to sing one or two on a part.

In-depth study of historical vocal practices and period style, including =
early pronunciation, articulation and phrasing.

Singing with early instruments, such as harpsichord, lute, and viola da =
gamba.=20

Solo and duet opportunities for those who are interested.

Master classes or coaching sessions may be included. Previous master =
classes have been led by Robert Porco of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus =
and Dr. William Martin of Cleveland State University, an expert on =
Italian secular music.=20

Group Bio:=20
The Madrigal Singers have performed for several Northeast Ohio cultural =
events, including the popular Holiday CircleFest in University Circle, =
in which they have participated for the past five years. They have also =
performed at The Cleveland Museum of Art, Brendan Manor, the Agnon =
School Art Festival, Judson Manor, and several area churches. They have =
also given numerous concerts in the beautiful main recital hall of The =
Cleveland Music School Settlement. Members of the Madrigal Singers boast =
a wide range of involvement with other outstanding choral groups as =
well: The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, the University Circle Chorale, the =
Forest City Singers, the Singers' Club of Cleveland, and the CWRU Early =
Music Singers.=20

Rehearsal Schedule: Wednesdays 7:30 - 9:00 $270 per semester (12 =
ninety-minute rehearsals)

Next Enrollment Session start February 2004.
