Auditions will be held Sunday,
November 23, from 2 p.m. to 5
p.m., and Monday, November 24,
from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Director
Carla Derr is looking for one
male and two female actors
between the ages of 25-40.
The role of Robert will be
played by six-time Emmy winner
David Canary. Those wishing
to audition should be familiar
with the script, and should
call The Players Guild
business office at
330-453-7619 for an
appointment. Performances of
Proof will be January 16-18
and 23-25, 2004.
Soap Star David Canary Joins
Players Guild Theatre
Production of Proof
CANTON, Ohio—Six-time Emmy
Award-winning actor and All My
Children soap opera legend
David Canary will star in
Proof, January 16-25 at The
Players Guild Theatre in
Canton.
            Raised in
Massillon, where he played on
the high school football team,
Canary turned down an offer to
join the Denver Broncos in
1962, and instead began his
career on the Broadway stage.
Discovered by Universal
Studios as he was singing the
role of El Gallo in The
Fantasticks, he rose to
stardom while playing the role
of Candy on the television
show, Bonanza. He also
starred as Russ Gehring in
Peyton Place. Canary joined
the cast of All My Children in
1983. Playing the powerful
Adam Chandler as well as Adam’
s gentle twin, Stuart, Canary
was honored with an Emmy Award
for Outstanding Lead Actor six
times, and has also received
several additional
nominations.
Although he has continued his
TV career, Canary says the
stage medium is “sculpted and
intellectualized to a degree,
as TV's instant acting can
never be.” As Robert in David
Auburn’s Proof, Canary will be
playing a brilliant but
mentally ill mathematician who
has quite possibly passed his
insanity onto his daughter.
Winner of the 2001 Tony Award
for Best Play and the Pulitzer
Prize, Proof is a play where
the line between genius and
insanity is razor thin.
