CUTTING EDGE THEATRE TRAINING FOR CHILDREN, TEENS, AND ADULTS BEGINS AT
CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE

CLEVELAND, OH -- For 20 years, Cleveland Public Theatre has blazed trails,
producing high quality, adventurous theatre and educational programs in
Northeast Ohio. Now we add a thrilling educational opportunity for
children, teens, and adults to take another step toward the edge. Beginning
in January 2004, CPT presents the CPT Academy.

CPT Academy commits to providing innovative theatre training to artists of
all ages, regardless of experience level. CPT’s groundbreaking methods
unlock the creative power and inspiration in each individual, while at the
same time focusing that energy through clear dramatic technique.

All classes take place on the CPT campus.

Instructor bios can be found at the bottom of this document.

The first class schedule, for Winter 2004, follows:

Children’s Class Schedule

Classes for children allow for fun theatre games, dress-up play, and guided
improvisations into magical worlds. They learn important tools about
building performance as they work towards producing and performing in their
very own production.

The Play Room (ages 6-12)
This class allows young actors to create their own play from a familiar
story or a tale all their own. The play develops from improvisations and
theater games, which encourage working together as an ensemble. Fun and hard
work coexist as the kids write, design and perform their own show.
Instructor, Jill Levin. Saturdays 10:00-11:00 a.m. Ten sessions, January
17- March 20, $125.

Fairy Tales (ages 3-5)
This class is a fun approach for little performers just starting out, and it
includes interactive games, music, dress-up, and new stories to act out each
week. Parents are invited to participate with their children. Instructor,
Holly Holsinger. Ten sessions, Saturdays, 10:00-10:45 a.m. January 10-March
13, $100.

Teen Class Schedule

Act Out! (ages 13-17)
For young people interested in spontaneous, exciting theater-of-the-moment,
this class gives teens the opportunity to express themselves through
improvisational games and exercises. Students learn how to think on their
feet, gain confidence, and develop fundamental acting skills. The class
culminates in a presentation for family and friends. Instructor, Jill Levin.
Ten sessions, Saturdays 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. January 17-March 20, $125.

Adult Class Schedule (ages 18 and up)

Acting Inside Out
This acting techniques class helps free actors from habits and boundaries
through exercises, scene work, and improvisation. Work to make stronger
emotional investments and create bolder physical choices. Learn how to
deliver a more fascinating, truthful performance, by moving past the
ordinary to find the extraordinary. Instructor, Jill Levin. Ten sessions,
Saturdays 12:30-2:00 p.m. January 17-March 20, $150.

Experimental Theatre Wing
This class is an exploration of actor as “creative artist.” Find your own
inspiration through bold, new exercises for the body and voice as well as
exciting ways to tap into your imagination and creative impulse. Learn how
to begin work on your own theatrical performance as well as how to
collaborate. Instructor, Holly Holsinger. Ten sessions, Saturdays 11:00
a.m.-12:30 p.m. January 10-March 13, $150.

Going Solo: Writing for Solo Performance
Do you have a story you've always wanted to tell? Do you have material that
would work for a solo piece, but you're not sure how to put it all together?
Would you just like to try a different way of writing or performing? This
class uses writing exercises, movement, and improvisation to jump start the
creative process and put you on the way to creating your own solo work for
the stage. All levels of experience are welcome. For the final class, each
student performs an excerpt from his or her own solo work-in-progress.
Instructor, Sarah Morton. Ten sessions, Saturdays 1:00-3:00 p.m. January
10-March 13, $175.
