The New World Performance Lab
and The University of Akron, School of Dance, Theatre and Arts Administration present
Winesburg, Ohio,
a new play with music based on Sherwood Anderson's classic novel,
to be performed at Oberlin College, Sunday, December 7 at 8PM in The Warner Center Mainspace. Admission is free. The performance is made possible by a grant from the Ohio Humanities Council.
Director James Slowiak, UA theatre professor and co-artistic director of NWPL, has adapted Anderson's novel for the stage in collaboration with a company of actors consisting of UA students, alumni, and members of NWPL. Megan Elk has composed the music and Jairo Cuesta has choreographed. Set design is by Adel Migid, costume design by Pamela Crevcoure, and lighting design by Chris Hariasz.
Winesburg, Ohio premiered October 22 at The University of Akron. The Oberlin performance will be the final presentation in 2003. The play has touched audiences deeply with the quality of the staging, acting, and creative storytelling techniques.
A panel discussion will follow Sunday's performance.
