WEATHERVANE PLAYHOUSE announces
Cast for THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP
Campy Winter Comedy

Weathervane Playhouse starts the new year with the campy romp, THE MYSTERY OF 
IRMA VEP, by Charles Ludlam.

The Playwright
Charles Ludlam (1943 - 1987), known as the master of the most far-reaching 
theater in New York, founded his own theater at the age of 17 in Northport, Long 
Island.  He received a scholarship in acting to Hofstra University, where he 
received a degree in dramatic literature.  In 1967, he founded The Ridiculous 
Theatrical Company with the six other original members.  In 1969, he received 
an Obie on behalf of the company for distinguished achievement in the 
Off-Broadway theatre.  He was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship in playwriting in 1970.  
In 1977, he received a CBS fellowship to Yale, where he coached graduate 
students in playwriting, a position to which he returned for an additional 
semester in 1982.  In 1981, he received a playwriting fellowship from the National 
Endowment for the Arts, an honor repeated in 1984.  Often, he took on several 
roles in a play, regardless of age, gender or any other characteristics.  Two of 
his memorable roles were his Garbo-inspired "Camille" in 1973, and his opera 
singer in "Galas" in 1983, a loving send-up of Maria Callas.  Ludlam's 
versatility was not limited to playing roles.  He wrote the storyline for Paul 
Taylor's dance, "Aphrodisiamania," in 1977.  In 1985, he made his operatic directing 
debut, staging the American premiere of Hans Werner Henze's "The English Cat" 
for the Santa Fe Opera.

The Director
Dr. Susan D. Speers, Professor at The University of Akron since 1988, is a 
producer, director, actor and choreographer who works extensively in the 
Northeast Ohio theater scene.  She directed Shakespeare productins for eight summers 
(1993-2001) at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, including "Comedy of Errors, A 
Midsummer Night's Dream, Taming of the Shrew, Merry Wives of Windsor, As You Like 
It," and "Twelfth Night" and acted in "Othello."  Her directing credits include 
nearly seventy-five other productions.  She served as the Artistic Director 
of Theatre L'Homme Diue, a professional summer stock theater in Minnesota, for 
11 years.  Susan received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa 
Barbara.

The Cast:
Scott Crim  (Nicodemus Underwood, Lady Enid Hillcrest, others)  from Cuyahoga 
Falls
Scott earned his Bachelors Degree in theater from Mount Union College where 
he received the Dramatics Award for excellence in the field of theatre arts.  
He was most recently seen this summer at The Players Guild as the Emcee in 
"Cabaret."  At Weathervane he was seen as one of the Proteans in "A Funny Thing 
Happened on the Way to the Forum" and also in "Loot" and "Cabaret."

Richard Worswick    (Jane Twisden, Lord Edgar Hillcrest, others)    from Akron
Richard last appeared at Weathervane in the award-winning production of "The 
Laramie Project."  He also received the Chanticleer for Best Actor in a Play 
for his portrayal of Reuven Malter in "The Chosen."  He has appeared in 
productions at Dobama Theatre, The University of Akron, The Cleveland Playhouse, 
Palace Theatre at Playhouse Square and Berea Summer Theater.  Originally from 
Michigan, he received a B.S. Degree in Theatre from Eastern Michigan University.  
He spent 22 years working as an administrator for The Cleveland Orchestra 
prior to retiring.  He is a members of Weathervane's Board of Trustees.

Low-cost preview performances on Wednesday and Thursday, January 14 & 15 at
