Cleveland Play House Artistic Director
Accepts Position at Dartmouth College

Cleveland Play House Board of Directors President Robert Paul announced
today that Artistic Director Peter Hackett has accepted an appointment to
the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Dartmouth College as Professor of
Theater, with tenure, beginning September 2004.

Mr. Hackett will continue as Artistic Director at The Cleveland Play House
through the opening night of its World Premiere production of Ken Ludwig's
Leading Ladies next fall.

During his ten-year tenure at The Play House, Mr. Hackett initiated several
innovative artistic programs, including the Associate Artists Program, The
Next Stage Festival of New Plays and the New Play Development Program. Mr.
Hackett was instrumental in initiating The Play House's partnership with
Case Western Reserve University for their joint Professional Actor Training
Program, a program that over the past seven years has garnered turn-away
interest from prospective students from across the country.

"The Actors Training Program is a crucial part of The Play House mission,"
said Mr. Paul. "The Cleveland Play House Board of Directors is very
committed to continuing our partnership with Case Western Reserve
University to further develop and expand the program."

Under Mr. Hackett's leadership, several Cleveland Play House productions
have moved to the commercial arena. Cleveland Play House World Premieres of
The Smell of the Kill by Michele moved to Broadway and Eric Coble's Bright
Ideas moved to Off-Broadway. The Play House's productions of Love, Janis
and The Music and Legend of Hank Williams both enjoyed very successful
Off-Broadway runs, while Picasso at the Lapin Agile toured to Budapest and
Miskolc, Hungary.

Mr. Hackett's Cleveland Play House directing credits include: Dirty Blonde,
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Betrayal, The Waverly Gallery, Frank Langella's
Cyrano, Art, Jerusalem, A Kiss for Cinderella, Twelve Angry Men, Picasso at
the Lapin Agile, A Russian Romance, The Enchanted Maze, The Grapes of
Wrath, Dracula, and The Gifts of the Magi. Before moving to Cleveland, Mr.
Hackett was a tenured associate professor of theatre at the University of
Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Mr. Hackett was also a member of the Tony
Award-winning Denver Center Theatre Company, serving variously as Acting
Artistic Director, Director of the National Theatre Conservatory, and
Associate Artistic Director for New Play Development. He has served on
panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and the Theatre
Communications Group.

"The Play House is at a stage in our nearly 90 years of existence where our
reputation in regional American Theatre allows us to command high interest
in the position Peter is vacating," said Mr. Paul. "We will commence a
nationwide search for his successor, utilizing respected national theatre
consultants. We are truly grateful for Peter's leadership of the theatre
over this past decade and wish him nothing but the best in his new
position."

Board Chairman Robert Trombly heads the search committee and will begin the
process in January.
