THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES
AT OBERLIN COLLEGE'S HALL AUDITORIUM,
9PM, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15
Proceeds From THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES Ticket Sales Will Be
Donated To The Lorain County Rape Crisis Shelter

OBERLIN, OH--Witty and irreverent, compassionate and wise, Eve Ensler's
Obie Award-winning masterpiece gives voice to women's deepest fantasies and
fears, guaranteeing that no one who reads it will ever look at a woman's
body, or think of sex, in quite the same way again. Based on interviews
with over 200 women about their memories and experiences of sexuality, THE
VAGINA MONOLOGUES is a collection of stories: some uproariously funny, some
deeply disturbing, several controversial, all poignant. "At first women
were reluctant to talk," Ensler writes. "They were a little shy. But once
they got going, you couldn't stop them."

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES is sponsored by the Oberlin College Theater and Dance
Program (www.oberlin.edu/thedance). This production contains adult language
and implied sexuality and is not appropriate for children under thirteen.
Tickets for THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES are $4 in advance and $5 at the door and
may be purchased at the Oberlin College Central Ticket Service (CTS) by
calling 440-775-8169. Proceeds from THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES ticket sales
will be donated to the Lorain County Rape Crisis Shelter. CTS is open from
Noon to 5pm, Monday - Friday, and Saturdays, Feb. 7 and 14.

This production of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES is part of a longer "Oberlin
V-Week" (Feb. 14 - Feb. 21) dedicated to raising awareness about violence
against women and raising money for local rape crisis organizations. For an
update list of Oberlin V-Week activities go to www.oberlin.edu/events.

V-Day
V-Day originated out of Ms. Ensler's conversations with women who
approached her after early performances of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, to tell
her of their own experiences of violence. She began to use performances of
the play to raise funds for organizations working to stop violence. Soon,
she and the group of women who make up V-Day found that support for their
efforts was far-reaching and expansive. What began as a simple possibility
quickly transformed into a worldwide social and activist movement.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day
is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise
money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
Through benefit performances of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, unique documentary
film projects and innovative gatherings designed to change social attitudes
toward violence, V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop
worldwide violence against women and girls including rape, battery, incest,
female genital mutilation (FGM), and sexual slavery. In its first six
years, the V-Day movement has raised over $20 million. The 'V' in V-Day
stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina. For more information, please
visit www.vday.org.

Eve Ensler
Ms. Ensler is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship Award in
Playwriting, the Berrilla-Kerr Award for Playwriting, the Elliot Norton
Award for Outstanding Solo Performance, and the Jury Award for Theater at
the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, as well as the 2002 Amnesty International
Media Spotlight Award for Leadership and The Matrix Award (2002). She is
Chair of the Women's Committee of PEN American Center and is an Executive
Producer of WHAT I WANT MY WORDS TO DO TO YOU, a documentary about the
writing group she has led since 1998 at the Bedford Hills Correctional
Facility for Women. The film had its world premiere at the 2003 Sundance
Film Festival where it received the "Freedom Of Expression" award. In May
2003, she received an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from her alma
mater, Middlebury College.

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES
Oberlin College Performers and Production Staff
Melissa Threadgill, 04, director of Oberlin College's production of THE
VAGINA MONOLOGUES, says, "Sexual assault and violence against women is a
serious problem -- in Oberlin, in Ohio, in the United States, in the world.
The V-Day movement and, in particular, the production of THE VAGINA
MONOLOGUES, is a way of dealing with these problems through creation. And,
of course, seeing a production of this show is not only a deeply moving
experience, but also an outrageously fun time. The aim, here, is on making
positive changes through positive attitudes. Above all, these are not
monologues about victims."

Other production staff include: Emma Nadeau, O6, Stage Manager; Carolyn
Mraz, 05, Set Designer; Jessica Bedwinek, 05, Publicity; Caleb Baker, 06,
Lighting; Tamar Daskin, 07, Costumes; Mary Larew, 04, and Dana Sadava, 07,
Sound/Composition.
