          The Beck Center for the Arts presents a gallery of artwork
inspired by Viktor Schrekengost.  Two-dimensional jazz bowls created by
second and third grade students from Grant Elementary in Lakewood, along
with five of Viktor's own watercolors are on display now through
February 29 at The Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood.

            Viktor Schreckengost, now 97 years old, has had notable
success in fine art, education, and design.  He has won many awards with
hundreds of pieces in clay, bronze, watercolor, and oil displayed in
both private and public collections throughout the world.  Viktor
graduated in 1925 from the Cleveland School of Art (now the Cleveland
Institute of Art) where he returned to teach.  He also designed many
products for General Electric, Sears, Murray Ohio, Sohio, and Salem

            Five Schreckengost watercolors are on exhibit in the Beck
Center Galleria, including Christmas - Salvation Army (1933), Clowns
(1933), Harlem Hoofers (1933), In the Mood (1995), and Tour Guide
(1933).  Several of his pieces are inspired by his travels to Europe in
the 1920s.=20

            The second and third grade students in Dina Bluemel's class
at Grant Elementary were inspired to create 2-dimensional bowls based on
Viktor's most famous pieces.  They each then wrote a letter to Viktor,
which moved he and his wife Gene to make a special visit to the school
in December.  The artwork and letters are on display along side
Schreckengost's watercolors.

            The exhibit is free and open to the public Mondays -
Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. until
5:00 p.m. through February 29.  For more information please call Cecily
