DIRECTING FOR FILM AND VIDEO

Learn basic and advanced directing techniques for
working with casts and crews in motion pictures,
television commercials, and music videos.

Topics Covered
This class will focus on the technical role of the
director from the pre-production through the
post-production, as well as, the artistic role of
working with actors, translating the creative vision
to the screen, communicating with the crew, and
effective storytelling through the film and video
mediums.

Learning Outcomes
Learn how to break down a script, develop a shooting
schedule, conduct auditions, communicate with a
cinematographer, work with a novice actor, and
effectively create and communicate your vision to the
crew prior to shooting.  Also, learn what to say to an
actor and what to never say to an actor, how to
correctly rehearse the scenes, and how to work with
the post-production crew through music and sound
design.

Jason J. Tomaric
Jason J. Tomaric is a national-award winning director
and filmmaker whose projects were honored with seven
Telly Awards last year alone.  He has directed several
feature and short films, including “One” which was
screened by Sony at the Sundance Film Festival as well
as several television commercials and productions for
clients such as McDonald’s and Microsoft.  Jason has
taught dozens of workshops on the art of filmmaking
across the country and currently resides in Los
Angeles.
