Students from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Oberlin College Stage Two
Performances of Hildegard von Bingen's Ordo Virtutum in Cleveland

For Immediate Release	Media Contact Only: Marci Janas
March 1, 2004 440-775-8328//marci.janas at oberlin.edu

OBERLIN, OHIO ? Two free, public performances of Hildegard von Bingen's
Ordo Virtutum will take place on March 20 and 21, 2004 at 8 p.m. at St.
Stanislaus Church, located at 3649 E. 65th Street in Cleveland's "Slavic
Village," between Broadway and Fleet Avenue. Fleet is accessible from I-77
at exit 159B.

Directed by Mary E. Larew, a composition major at the Oberlin Conservatory
of Music, the staged performance of this important 12th century morality
play--a combination of sacred music, drama, and ritual--concerns the story
of the Soul's struggle to escape the temptation of the Devil and the World
in order to join the Virtues in Heaven.

This production was first staged by the Oberlin performers last February to
capacity crowds at the College's Fairchild Chapel. Another free, public
performance in Fairchild Chapel will take place on Tuesday, March 16 at 8
p.m.

The performers include students of Oberlin College and the Oberlin
Conservatory of Music as well as professional musicians and early music
specialists from northeast Ohio. Admission to the performance is free, but
a free will offering at St. Stanislaus Church will be accepted.

For more information, please call David Krakowski of St. Stainislaus churck
at 216-341-9091.
