A pre-screening workshop with the filmmakers of the award-winning films of=20
the Silver Images Film and Video Awards, Karen Carter and Nicole D Sampogna=20
(bios below), will precede the Awards ceremony which begins at 5:30 pm at th=
e same=20
location. They'll discuss the "how-to" of making documentary films, includin=
g=20
the production, financing, and distribution.=20

The workshop is free to IFP members and students. $5 for all others.=A0=20

Nicole D Sampogna

Nicole D Sampogna decided to go independent and create ND Studio after years=
=20
at MTV, producing and directing various documentaries. Her first project at=20=
ND=20
Studio was to produce and direct "Her Name Is Zelda". Nicole grew up in Los=20
Angeles, CA, and began her career as a photographer and designer. She earned=
=20
her BFA in Visual Communications at UCLA, and then moved to New York in 1993=
,=20
where she attended New York University and earned her Masters in Media Ecolo=
gy.=20
She has since worked on both coasts as a producer, director and=20
cinematographer, working on several socially relevant documentaries, such as=
 the Emmy Award=20
winning series "Fight for Your Right" MTV News and Specials, as well as Come=
dy=20
Central's The Daily Show and a variety of projects for Sundance Channel. "He=
r=20
Name Is Zelda" is her debut feature film.

Karen Carter

Producer/Director, Karen Carter is the winner of the 1998 Roy Dean Film Gran=
t=20
and numerous other industry awards.=A0 In addition to the documentaries Brav=
e=20
Girl and Ask Not: People Who Make a Difference, she produced and directed th=
e=20
shorts series, Me In a Box,=A0 for the Nickelodeon Network.=A0 Karen balance=
s her=20
documentary work with commercial advertising.
