As the weather becomes nicer the urge to have new
experiences blooms.  Several venues in Cleveland are
welcoming spring with exciting offerings.  Here’s a
list of some things to consider attending:

CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE PRESENTS DANCE WORKS ’04

Verb Ballets launches its contemporary Artists
Collection with vibrant and thought-provoking works.  
See a preview of the premieres and company pieces on 
March 12th and 13th at 8:00 PM and March 14th at 3:00
in the Gordon Square Theatre.  Support the AIDS
Taskforce of Greater Cleveland by attending a benefit
on Thursday, March 11th.

Antaeus Dance presents works danced to live music by
Cleveland composer Paul Cox.  The program includes
sensual, meditative, assertive and aural landscape
pieces.  Performance dates:  March 12th & 13th at 8
and March 14th at 3:00 in the Upstairs Theatre.

Inlet Dance Theatre is billed as the company which
gives the audience the unexpected in a playful way. 
This is one of Cleveland’s newest companies.  They
will dance at the Gordon Square Theatre on March 19th
and 20th at 8:00 and March 21st at 3:00.

MorrisonDance presents a kinetically stimulating
evening exploring theories of psychology, neuroscience
and other behavioral concepts.  Performed at the
Upstairs Theatre on March 19 and 20 at 8:00 and March
21 at 3:00.

Safmod is one of CPT’s resident dance companies. 
Presenting an evening called “Odyssey,” the audience
is invited to share a cathartic plunge through
convoluted terrains of today’s emotional landscape on
March 26 and 27 at 8:00 and March 28 at 3:00 in the
Upstairs Theatre.

GroundWorks, my favorite local dance company presents
a world premiere by Artistic Director David
Shimotakahara along with several other pieces
including one inspired by Samuel Beckett’s play “NOT
I.”  Performances are in the Gordon Square theatre on
April 2nd and 3rd and 8:00 and April 4th at 3:00.

Prices for performances run from $15 to $18 with the
“Pay What You Can Policy” available.  Call Cleveland
Public Theatre at 216-631-2727.  Five ticket Art Pak’s
are available for $60 for 5 vouchers.  CPT is located
at 6415 Detroit Avenue and free parking is available
in two lots on the north and south side of Detroit and
also on West 65th street.

THERE’S A NEW MUSICAL THEATRE IN TOWN

Kalliope Stage is the dream of a lifetime for founders
John Paul Boukis and Paul F. Gurgol.  Eight years in
the planning, the new professional musical theater
company will present full main stage musical theatre,
a cabaret and a chamber music series, as well as a
series of youth theater courses.

The company has completely renovated the Douglas
Building at Cedar and Lee Roads in such a way that the
audience will be up-front and personal.   The space
includes the Konfectionary, a resident chocolate café
for after-show fun.

Kalliope’s opening season includes:  Rodgers and
Hammerstein’s “IT’S A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING,” March
5-April 4, “CAROUSEL,” April 30-May 23, and “PETE N’

ALLEN THEATRE TO HOST ‘NUNSENSE’S 20TH ANNIVERSARY
TOUR

The Little Sisters of Hoboken are taking their act on
the road in an all-star production of NUNSENSE, the
award winning hit musical comedy.  The cast includes
theatrical and television legends Kay Ballard, Georgia
Engel, Mimi Hines, Darlene Love and Lee Meriwether. 
The show will be presented from March 9th through the
14th.

Performances are Tuesday through Sunday evening at
7:30, with matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 1:30.  

“JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR” IN A NEW PERFORMANCE AT
PALACE THEATRE

Long before Mel Gibson decided to tell the story of
Christ in his controversial “THE PASSIONS OF CHRIST,”
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the musical
“JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.”  The play, which will star
Lawrence Clayton as Judas and Eric Kunze as Jesus,
will be staged from April 13-15 at Playhouse Square’s
Palace Theatre.  Songs from the production, which
includes fierce rock rhythms, include:  “I Don’t Know
How to Love Him,” “Could We Start Again Please” and,
“Jesus Christ, Superstar.” 

Tickets for “JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR,” which range from
$58 to $23 are available at the Playhouse Square box

“I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE” CONTINUES AT

positively reviewed ‘I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW
CHANGE’ is running at the Hanna theatre until June 27.

‘FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE” AT THE BECK CENTER

MOE” will rock the stage of the Beck Center.  Directed
and choreographed by Times Theatre Tribute winner
Martin Cespedes, the show was complied by Clarke
Peters from the music of Louis Jordan.  For tickets

SHAW AND SHAKESPEARE ON STAGE AT ACTORS’ SUMMIT

G. B. Shaw’s ‘MRS. WARREN’S PROFESSION’ is a story of
an emancipated, intelligent and self-sufficient young
woman who is astounded to learn how her mother rose
from poverty to riches.  It’s full of Shavian wit and
contrariness.  The play runs from March 4th through
April 25th

Are you ready for this?  Cleveland’s first family of
theatre Reuben Silver and Dorothy Silver, star in
MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, on stage from April 1st
through March 21st.   This is a must see!
