FAIRMOUNT CENTER TO OFFER CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS LED BY NOVELIST AND
MOVIE PRODUCER, SCOTT LAX

This April, Scott Lax will be offering an 8 week creative writing workshop
that encourages aspiring writers, 16 and older, to hone their skills and
search out their unique voice. Held in Fairmount Center's newly acquired
"Lake House" on the beautiful Centerville Mills Campus, these workshops are
designed for novelists, playwrights, screen writers or non fiction writers.
The workshops begin on April 3 and continue every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4
p.m. Cost for the workshop is $250.00.

"This is an excellent opportunity for writers who wish to attend a workshop
resembling a writer's conference that is spread out over five weeks" Mr. Lax
said in a recent interview. "It's a serious workshop that delves deeply
into the vital, commonsense aspects of writing. My workshops strive to
bring the distinctive voice of the writer to the surface. And once it's
there, we celebrate it!"

Scott Lax is a novelist, movie producer, playwright, public speaker,
educator, television writer, freelance journalist, founder of Novel City
Pictures, Ltd., and founder and CEO of Cottage Productions, Inc.

He has written for Lifetime TV and Comedy Central TV. His movie The Year
That Trembled, based upon Lax's novel of the same name, adapted and directed
by Jay Craven, is now in international distribution.

As a journalist, he has written for a variety of publications, including a
long-running column in Cleveland Magazine and currently is a contributor and
monthly columnist for Northern Ohio Live Magazine and Ohio Magazine.

As one who has successfully crossed literary genres, in addition to having
his first play produced at University School in 2003, Mr. Lax's first novel,
The Year That Trembled, was the recipient of the 1998 Sewanne Writers'
Conference Walter E. Dakin Fellowship in Fiction, one of only seven in the
United States. It was also named the Vermont Novel of the Year Runner-up,
as well as listed by the Denver Post as one of the best works of fiction for
1998, putting Mr. Lax on a published list that year alongside such authors
as Tom Wolfe, Philip Roth, Alice Walker, Barbara Kingsolver, Stephen King,
Jay McInerney, Jim Harrison, Andrea Barrett, Anne Rice and Tim O'Brien.

As a nonfiction writer, Mr. Lax was awarded a nonfiction scholarship to the
Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, as well as staff scholarships to Bread Loaf
in following years. As the producer for the movie based on his novel, he is
also the recipient of four first-place film festival awards.

Thomas Q. Fulton, Jr., Executive Artistic Director for the Center is highly
complimentary of Scott Lax and the talent he brings to the table. "Scott is
not only a wonderful writer, he is a remarkable teacher. His students
praise him and continually come back for more. We feel privileged and lucky
to have him," Fulton said. "We are in the process of gathering together the
best and the brightest talents in our region make Fairmount one of the
premier sites for aspiring writers, musicians, dancers, actors, and visual
artists to explore and develop their talents. Mr. Lax is one of the
brightest. We hope all the aspiring writers out there join us and Mr. Lax
for this amazing workshop."

To register, writers should contact The Fairmount Center at 440-338-3171.
