Cleveland composer Alan Higbee has been selected as the winner of a
choral composition competition sponsored by the Long Island Arts Council
in celebration of their 30th anniversary.  His winning composition
entitled "My Song Will Speak" is scored for SATB choir and piano and
will be premiered on May 8th by the Bel Canto Chorale directed by Brad
Ford at the historic Garden City Cathedral of the Incarnation.

In December, 2003, Mr. Higbee also won the "Welcome Christmas! Carol
Competition" sponsored by Vocal Essence and the American Composer's
Forum.  His winning carol was a completely new setting of the text "In
The Bleak Midwinter" score for SATB choir acappella with oboe. It was
premiered on December 7, 2003 by Vocal Essence under the direction of
Philip Brunnelle.
