Do you find yourself discussing the state of our television news with
friends and colleagues? Why don't they cover more local arts and how do
the new FCC regulations effect what we learn about national events? If
so, you should definitely attend The City Club Friday Forum next week,
March 26, 2004 as we welcome Av Westin, the Executive Director of the
National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to our podium. Mr.
Westin's topic is "What's Wrong with TV News". I encourage all of you to

opportunity to meet Mr. Westin!

Please come welcome Mr. Westin to Cleveland!

The City Club of Cleveland
850 Euclid Ave. 2nd Floor
Cleveland, OH 441114

Av Westin
Veteran television news executive and executive director of the National
Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Av Westin will address the
downward spiral of
broadcast journalism, particularly the politicization of broadcast news
in search of ratings at a City Club Friday Forum on March 26.
Mr. Westin began his broadcast journalism career as a radio writer
and reporter for CBS News in 1949. He was influenced by journalists
like Edward R. Murrow. During his time as a television producer at CBS,
he developed CBS Morning News With Mike Wallace, and was an executive
producer on CBS News Special Events. When he moved over to ABC, Mr.
Westin worked on longer news formats, including ABC News' "World News
Tonight" and "20/20."
Mr. Westin is the Executive Director of the National Television
Academy Foundation, which is setting up programs across the
country to teach high school students the basic tenets of good broadcast
journalism. He has been a guest lecturer at the Medill School of
Journalism at Northwestern University, the School of Journalism at the
University of California Berkeley, the Neiman Foundation at Harvard in
Cambridge, the School of Journalism at the University of Colorado in
Boulder and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
