CLEVELAND PUBLIC THEATRE PRESENTS
CPT ACADEMY’S SPRING SESSION
Cutting edge theatre training for children, teens, and adults!

CLEVELAND, OH - After a successful first series in Winter 2004, the Academy
is back in session.

For 20 years, CPT has blazed trails, offering the highest quality, most
adventurous, cutting edge theatre in Northeast Ohio. Now this Near West
side institution offers an educational opportunity for children, teens, and
adults to take a thrilling step toward the edge: CPT presents the spring
2004 session of CPT Academy. Classes are taught by resident artists, who
provide innovative training to theatre enthusiasts of all ages, regardless
of experience.

CPT’s Director of Education, Holly Holsinger, is “very excited for the
spring session, along with the return of the creative classes for children
and the very popular Going Solo class.” CPT’s groundbreaking methods unlock
the creative power and inspiration in each individual, while at the same
time focusing that energy through clear dramatic technique.

CPT Academy’s spring session consists of 8 consecutive Saturdays from April
17 - June 5, 2004.

All classes take place on the CPT campus.

Classes for Adults (ages 18 and up)

Audition Techniques
Auditioning has become an art in and of itself. Learn how to audition
effectively, the tricks of the trade, and how to show your best self. Learn
techniques in cold reading, choose the right monologue, and write the best
resume. The last class will be a special private audition for CPT’s leading
directors. Taught by Jill Levin. Saturdays 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., $125.

Experimental Theatre Wing
Work with CPT’s Resident Director Raymond Bobgan as you learn new techniques
to explore creativity, craft, and the essence of great acting. This class is
a great way for artists to reconnect to their creative resources and get
inspired. You will also learn ways of developing your own creative material
through movement, sound, song, and action. Saturdays 12:30-2:30 p.m., $150.

Going Solo: Writing for Solo Performance
Do you have a story you've always wanted to tell? Do you have material that
would work for a solo piece, but you're not sure how to put it all together?
In this class, we will use writing exercises, movement, and improvisation to
“jump start” the creative process and put you on the way to creating your
own solo work for the stage. All levels of experience are welcome. Former
students of Going Solo are encouraged to attend, but no prerequisite is
required. Taught by Sarah Morton. Saturdays 3:00-5:00 p.m., $150.

Classes for Children and Teens

Act Out Shakespeare! (ages 13-17)
Access the works of the greatest playwright of all time. Learn how to
confront Shakespeare’s works and characters with active techniques that
break down the words into digestible parts and bring the text to life. By
the end of the program you will be able to perform a fully polished
monologue, ready for audition or competition. Taught by Holly Holsinger.
Saturdays 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., $100.

Back by popular demand!!!

The Play Room (ages 6-12)
This class will allow young actors to create their own play, from a familiar
story or a tale all their own. The play will develop from improvisations and
theater games, which encourage working together as an ensemble. Fun and hard
work coexist as the kids write, design, and perform their own show. Taught
by Holly Holsinger. Saturdays 10:00-11:00 a.m., $100.

Fairy Tales (ages 3-5)
This class is a fun approach for little performers just starting out. The
class provides interactive games, music, dress-up, and new stories to act
out each week. Parents are invited to participate with their children.
Taught by Jaime Bouvier. Saturdays 10:00-10:45 a.m., $85.

Classes for children allow for fun theatre games, dress-up play, and guided
improvisations into magical worlds. They learn important tools about
building performance as they work towards producing and performing in their
very own production.
