The Director

Seth Gordon, currently Director of New Play Development at the Cleveland
Playhouse directs Agnes of God at the Beck Center.  He notes "Agnes of
God is many things - a Jane Fonda movie you vaguely remember, a
compelling character study, a moving story and a highly theatrical
mystery all at once. But the main question that it asks you to ask
yourself is, what happens to life in a world that no longer requires
faith? Is it truly possible to live one's life with every fact and event
being explainable? What are we giving up?"

The Cast

This mysterious three woman play features Alicia Kahn, making her
Cleveland theatre debut as Agnes, Elizabeth Ann Townsend returning to
the Beck Center following Boy Gets Girl as Dr. Livingstone, and Sherrie
Britton as Mother Superior.

Agnes of God

Agnes of God involves a young nun who gives birth in a convent. The baby
is later found dead. Agnes remembers nothing about the conception,
pregnancy, birth or murder.  The court has assigned a psychiatrist, Dr.
Livingstone, to investigate.  Dr. Livingstone is determined to help
Agnes gain a stronger grasp on reality and uncover any wrongdoers.  The
conflict between religion and science in this thoughtful melodrama spins
itself into a beautiful, yet terrifying tale.  Agnes of God asks hard
questions about faith and gives no easy answers.
