*Director's note: I have done a lot of theatre around town. I have always heard of this play but had never seen it or even read it. Since I have been doing the research, I have found this to be one of the funniest plays I have ever read. I can't wait to work with all of you as we begin the process of creating something magical. (sounds corny, but true)

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Although not necessary, I would love some kind of communication (email, phone etc) to let me know if you plan on attending auditions and on which day. It will really help me organize and ensure that the audition process runs quickly and smoothly.

Brunswick is about 30 minutes from downtown Cleveland. Not very far at all. Come on out!!!

ABOUT THE PLAY
Winner of two Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 1989, "Lend Me A Tenor" is a fast-paced, lunatic farce (in the same vein as "Moon Over Buffalo," another, more recent Ludwig play) that takes the auience on a laugh-filled ride behind the scenes for one night in the life of a struggling Cleveland Grand Opera in September 1934.

This is the biggest night in the Company's history. World-famous tenor Tito Morelli is to perform Otello, his greatest role, at the gala season-opener.

Saunders, the company's general manager has gambled everything on the success of this production. But his nervousness soon turns to panic when "Il Stupendo" is late--and then is mistakenly given a double dose of tranquilizers mixed with the booze he has already consumed and he passes out.

Morelli's pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant and propsective son-in-law Max, believe Morelli is dead. What to do?

Max
happens to be an aspiring singer himself, and Saunders persuades him to get into Morelli's Otello costume and try to fool the audience into thinking he's Il Stupendo.

Not long after they put their plan in action, Morelli comes to and gets into his other costume. Now TWO Otellos are running around in costume and two women are running around in lingerie, each thinking she is with Il Stupendo!

Can't you just see yourself in this production?

David Lemoyne
Managing Director
ActorsCoach Productions
Learn2Act at Email.com
