HEY, EVERYBODY! (read before reviewing casting info.)

Guess who's baaaaack for 2004? It's your boy, M.A.B!!! Good to know all of you are still makin' things happen out here. Yes, the economy sucks. Yes, the war sucks. Yes, it's a depressing time for some. But WHAT YOU ARE FORGETTING, my friends, is that during times like these humans need to be reminded of their imagination. People need to smile or cry tears of joy. They NEED to be entertained and taken out of their world just to have a moment of fun or inspiration. Don't think I'm off center when I tell you that many FAMOUS big thinkers credit a movie, song or play with what helped them achieve greatness with a spark. Artists were the cool super heroes of old and are the new super heroes of the modern day. Before and after terrorism. SO GET FRIGGIN' busy and act like it!!! That was THE REAL reason you began doing this right? (I hear 'some' say it's for the money or the fame). Yeah, only because it's not paying the bills. It's been the reason why even KINGS needed a jestor---to keep
things 'chip' while raising taxes and stealing wives. LOL Ok, ok. I went a little to far there. Back to business.

Here's a listing for you from me on things that might help you get some money, a little rep- or just what you always wanted: W-O-R-K

Forever me,

Mitch Berlingeri (BERLIN-jerry)

"SIDE MAN"
Malibu Stage Company
Equity Waiver
Director: Chris Hart
Playwright: Warren Leight
Rehearsals start: April 26, 2004
Runs: May 26 for 6 weeks
STORY LINE: Set in 1953 and traveling to 1985, this lovely and
poignant
memory play unfolds through the eyes of CLIFFORD, the only son of
GENE, a
jazz trumpet player, and TERRY, an alcoholic mother. Alternating
between
their New York City apartment and a smoke filled club, Clifford
narrates the
story of his broken family and the decline of jazz as popular
entertaintment
All the characters are presented over the course of 32 years,
spanning from
1953 - 1985
CLIFFORD GLIMMER- Male, Caucasian. Actor should be mid-late 20s.
Character
spans ages 10-29. The 29 year old narrator of the play. Overly
responsible,
serious, sensitive, and wry. He does not want to be perceived as a
victim
TERRY GLIMMER- Female, Caucasian. Actress should be mid 30s.
Character spans
mid 20s to mid 50s. Clifford's mom. We see her transformation from
a tough,
yet naive Italian girl from East Boston to a hard-drinking,
cigarette-smoking woman in her mid 50s. Despite her anger, she
cares deeply
for her son, her husband and his music
PATSY- Female, Caucasian. Actress should be mid 30s. Character
spans ages
mid 20s to mid 50s. Waitress at Charlie's Melody Lounge, confidante
to Terry
and Clifford, and lover at one time or another to all the musicians
except
Gene
GENE GLIMMER- Male, Caucasian. Actor should be mid 30s to late 40s.
Character spans ages late 20s to early 60s. Clifford's dad. A
spacy,
seemingly detached man who most comes to life when playing his
trumpet
AL- Male. Actor should be mid 30s to late 40s. Character spans late
20s to
early 60s. The macho (for these guys) lead trumpet player,
nicknamed "Romeo"
by the others. (Lead trumpet is to a big band what concertmaster is
to an
orchestra)
ZIGGY- Male. Actor should be mid 30s to late 40s. Character spans
ages late
20s to early 60s. Trumpet player and Gene's pal. His odd speech
impediment
(a bilateral lisp) does not stop his constant stream of wisecracks;
it can
hide his anger
JONESY- Male. Actor should be mid 30s to late 40s. Character spans
ages late
20s to early 60s. A one-eyed, prophetic, junkie trombone player
