LEND ME A TENOR
=20
Actors=E2=80=99 Summit announces the opening of the contemporary farce, Lend=
me a=20
Tenor by Ken Ludwig. The play has a preview performance on Thursday, May 6,=20=
and=20
plays through May 23 at Actors=E2=80=99 Summit Theater in downtown Hudson.=20
=20
The Play=20
Set in Cleveland in 1934, the =E2=80=9Claugh out loud farce=E2=80=9D explode=
s with mistaken=20
identities and romantic hijinks. The fictional Cleveland Grand Opera Company=
=20
is celebrating its 10th season with a special performance of Otello with the=
=20
world renowned tenor, Tito Merelli, in the title role. He arrives late and s=
ick=20
to his stomach. He accidentally takes an overdose of sedatives and dies befo=
re=20
the performance begins. Without revealing this tragedy to the musical world,=
=20
the Cleveland impresario drafts his assistant to pretend that he is Tito=20
Merelli. With an amorous soprano, an opera groupie, a jealous Italian wife,=20=
and an=20
opera singing bell boy racing around, what could possibly go wrong?=20
=20
The Cast
Appearing as the renowned Tito Merelli is Wayne S. Turney. One of the region=
=E2=80=99
s most talented and versatile actors, Wayne does double duty as both Tito an=
d=20
the director of the production. Wayne is a regular at Actors=E2=80=99 Summit=
and, in=20
addition to acting numerous roles, has translated and written works for the=20
company. A long term member of the Cleveland Play House company, Wayne is al=
so=20
known for his television program =E2=80=93 =E2=80=9CHickory Hideout=E2=80=
=9D. As the hapless assistant=20
who is thrown into the role of Otello, Chris Bohan will be making his Actors=
=E2=80=99=20
Summit debut as Max, the much put upon assistant to the impresario. A talent=
ed=20
and versatile comedian, Chris is a founding member of Cabaret Dada=20
Improvisational Theatre and a local actor, director, and teacher. Kent LeMar=
, a frequent=20
performer at Actors=E2=80=99 Summit, plays the opera singing, Italian speaki=
ng bell=20
boy. The impresario who is desperately trying to cope with a series of=20
disasters is played by Neil Thackaberry, Artistic Director of Actors=E2=80=
=99 Summit.=20
=20
Paula Duesing plays Tito=E2=80=99s long-suffering wife, Maria. Paula has per=
formed at=20
Actors=E2=80=99 Summit frequently in the past and has graced the stages of t=
he=20
Cleveland Play House, Great Lakes Theatre Festival, Cain Park, and Dobama. A=
lso=20
returning to the Actors=E2=80=99 Summit stage is Lucy Bredeson-Smith, who ea=
rlier this=20
season shared the stage with Wayne and Neil in the critically acclaimed=20
production of Copenhagen. Lucy plays the chairman of the Opera=E2=80=99s Boa=
rd of Trustees, who=20
is willing to do anything for the illustrious Merelli. Kristie J. Lange play=
s=20
the impresario=E2=80=99s daughter who is in love with Max, but thinks she ne=
eds at=20
least one fling before she settles down. Kristie has performed twice before=20=
at=20
Actors=E2=80=99 Summit in Tartuffe and The Glass Menagerie, and has appeared=
on=20
professional stages across Ohio. Lora Eves plays the ambitious soprano in th=
e opera=20
company who is willing to do anything for Tito=E2=80=99s help in advancing h=
er career.
=20
The Support Team
For the first time since the company was founded five years ago, Actors=E2=
=80=99=20
Summit has a guest director in Wayne S. Turney. Until now all of the product=
ions=20
have been directed either by Artistic Director Neil Thackaberry, or by=20
Associate Artistic Director, MaryJo Alexander. Costumes and props are design=
ed by=20
MaryJo Alexander. Lighting design is by Dan Polk.=20
=20
