with other amazing titles.

A 20 year veteran, Artistic Director Scott Spence has linked some of
Cleveland's top directors with titles you'd expect (or not expect) from
the Beck Center for the Arts, including an artist-in-residency with
Chicago's Timothy Mooney. Some daring, some courageous, yet all the
quality and value you have come to expect from the Beck Center for the
Arts.

BY JEEVES

(Karl Mackey Main Stage)
September 17th, 2004 - October 10th, 2004
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Book and Lyrics by Alan Ayckbourn (Based on the "Jeeves" stories by P.G.
Wodehouse)
Directed by Michael Rogaliner

A musical comedy from the classic P.B. Wodehouse stories. The premise
behind By Jeeves is that the butler, Jeeves (stereotypically thought to
be beneath upper class folks in demeaner and intelligence), is actually
the brains behind an English buffoon by the name of Bertie Wooster. A
tale of escalating chaos unfolds to the accompaniment of one of Andrew
Lloyd Webber's most vivacious and lively scores. By Jeeves provides a
refreshing alternative to the larger and louder musicals.

LOBBY HERO

(Studio Theater)
October 1st, 2004 - October 24th, 2004
Written by Kenneth Lonergan
Directed by Seth Gordon

=20

When Jeff, a luckless young security guard, is drawn into a local murder
investigation, loyalties are strained to the breaking point. As Jeff's
tightly wound supervisor is called to bear witness against his troubled
brother, and an attractive rookie cop finds she must stand up to her
seasoned partner, truth becomes elusive and justice proves costly.

=20

"Soon after making the year's best movie, You Can Count On Me, Kenneth
Lonergan delights us with his irrepressible Lobby Hero, confirming him
as a comic wizard." New York Magaziine

=20

"Best drama, best comedy and the best romance of the year, all rolled
into one." Time Out, New York

FULLY COMMITTED

(Studio Theater)
November 19th, 2004 - December 19th, 2004
Written by Becky Mode
Directed by TBA

They're tough... they're famous... they're desperate... they're an
unforgettable collection of people trying to book a reservation in NY's
trendiest restaurant... and one out of work actor must deal with them
all.

Fully Committed, a solo tour de force, is a comic tale about a harried
reservation clerk at New York's hottest four-star restaurant and the
hordes of people who make his job impossible.

No one who has ever dined out or who has ever held a restaurant job
should miss this show!

"This is an immensely entertaining, scaldingly funny play about the bad
behavior that good food can inspire." The New York Times=20

SEUSSICAL!

(Karl Mackey Main Stage)
December 3rd, 2004 - January 2nd, 2005
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens

Music by Stephen Flaherty

Directed by Scott Spence

"After all those years being stuck on a page,

Did you ever imagine you'd see me on stage?

Now I'm here, there is no telling what may ensue!

No, there's no telling what!

But I'll give you a clue . . . "

=20

So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical,
magical, musical extravaganza! Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (My
Favorite Year, Once On This Island and Ragtime) have lovingly brought to
life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the
Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville!

 THE CHILDREN'S HOUR

(Studio Theater)
January 21st, 2005 - February 13th, 2005
Written by Lillian Hellman
Directed by Sarah May

An American classic by one of our most revered playwrights. Two female
school teachers are accused of unspeakable acts in the 1930's. The
Children's Hour was prophetic of the McCarthy hearings, which occurred
some 20 years later.

=20

A RAISIN IN THE SUN

(Karl Mackey Main Stage)
February 4th, 2005 - February 27th, 2005
Written by Lorraine Hansberry
Directed by Margaret Ford Taylor

The certainty that the ideals of "life, liberty and the pursuit of
happiness" can become reality for anyone willing to work for them is
what we call the American dream. For many, the dream does come true.
For many it does not. One of the most produced plays of all time, A
Raisin in the Sun is the epic story of the Younger family struggling to
realize "the dream" by escaping ghetto life. =20

ON THE TOWN

(Karl Mackey Main Stage)
March 18th, 2005 - April 10th, 2005
Music by Leonard Bernstein

Lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green (Based on an idea by Jerome
Robbins)
Directed by Fred Sternfeld

It's New York City, and three all-American sailors are on 24 hour leave
from their ship docked in this fabulous city. On the Town is an
uplifting, fun adventure with memorable musical numbers including "Come
Up to My Place," "Lucky to Be Me," and "New York, New York."

=20

The duo that would eventually team up to give us West Side Story shines
with one of the musical gems of the 1940s.

POLISH JOKE

(Studio Theater)
April 8th, 2005 - May 1st, 2005
Written by David Ives =20
Directed by TBA

One of the more intriguing things about being an American is that we
tend to define ourselves more by where our ancestors emigrated from than
by where we currently reside. Polish Joke tells the saga of young
Jasiu, a Polish-American child who has been warned by his Uncle Roman
that not only are all Polish jokes true, but in order to escape his
destiny, he must find another nationality to adopt and acquire a more
easily pronounceable name. Only then will he escape the dreaded sound
of 'The Polish Gong,' which heralds doom to all members of his race.

=20

Polish Joke is one of those all too rare beasts, an exceptional comedy
with a universal message giving immense appeal and impact.=20

=20

THE IMAGINARY INVALID

(Karl Mackey Main Stage)
May 20th, 2005 - June 12th, 2005
Written by Moliere, Adaptation by Timothy Mooney
Directed by Timothy Mooney

The Imaginary Invalid (1673) may be considered another of Moliere's
great character plays, in which the entire development of the action,
like in The Miser, centered around a single trait of character upon
which everything turns, in this case, that of the hypochondriac. As
created by Moliere, the hypochondriac is someone who wants to be sick.
To tell Argan that he is looking well is considered a rude offense in
this household.

=20

In his adaptation, Timothy Mooney had the Latin translated into English,
and then built new poetry out of the English, with Latin thrown in, only
for effect. What's come out of this is a finale which seems to stretch
the comic boundaries even farther than they've already ventured in this
very funny play. =20

Timothy Mooney Bio - For over twenty years, Timothy Mooney has acted,
directed, staged sword fights, juggled and filled positions from
literary manager to artistic director at theatres across the country.
Tim has been associated with some of the country's most influential
champions of new work. He was assistant director to John Dillon of the
Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and Daniel Sullivan of the Seattle Repertory
Theatre, as well as Alley Theatre's Gregory Boyd, and Michael Engler.
Tim worked as resident director and literary manager at Chicago's
Playwrights' Center, before taking over as artistic director at the
Stage Two Theatre Company in 1993, where he was to produce over 50 plays
in less than five years, over thirty of which were original works.
During Tim's stay he will conduct master classes in northeast Ohio while
performing his two one-man shows.

MOBY DICK! THE MUSICAL

(Studio Theater)
June 3rd, 2005 - July 3rd, 2005
Written by Robert Longden and Hereward Kaye=20

Directed by Scott Spence

The girls of St. Godley's School are in trouble! Money for the school
has run out and the place will have to close. Leave it to these
resourceful girls, and their unflappable headmistress (played by a man
in drag), to come up with a plan to keep the school afloat. Using
whatever they can find at hand, the girls mount an original production:
a musical version of Moby Dick, featuring their headmistress in the
coveted role of Captain Ahab.

=20

A cult-favorite in London in the 1990s, Moby Dick! The Musical has been
re-conceived for an American sensibility. Warning: this is NOT your
ordinary musical version of Moby Dick! What The Rocky Horror Show does
to late night horror movies, Moby Dick! The Musical does to Herman
Melville!

SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER MUSICAL - TBA=20
