Weathervane Playhouse Women's Board is pleased to present the DOROTHY AND 
REUBEN SILVER in LAUGHTER IN THREE LANGUAGES: English, Yiddish and "Yinglish."  
Dorothy and Reuben Silver have worked in the theatre all of their lives and, 
since 1955, have resided in Cleveland.  Their many performances in most of the 
theatres in our area, have brought them acclaim from critics and audiences 
alike.  Among their memorable acting credits and directing assignments are The 
Visit, Master Class, All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, The Chosen, Old Wicked 
Songs, The Glass Menagerie and the recently lauded productions of Talking Heads 
and Merry Wives of Windsor.

In addition to performing opposite each other onstage, Dorothy and Reuben 
have often directed one another and, contrary to standard theatre practice, have 
somehow managed to stay well-married and raise three sons!  Their resumes 
include Reuben's position as Artistic Director of Karamu House Theatre, his 
chairmanship of the Cleveland State University Theatre (where he is now Professor 
Emeritus), and Dorothy's leadership of the Theatre and Visual Arts Department of 
the Jewish Community Center.  Dr. Silver served as President of the National 
Theatre Conference, as well as the Ohio Community Theatre Association, and was 
selected by the U.S. State Department to work as a Theatre Specialist in the 
West Indies.  Reuben is weekly interview host of WCLV-FM's ARTSRAP. Together 
and separately they have been recipients of many theatre achievement awards 
during their lengthy careers.

Their plans for the coming theatre season include a two-week reprise of 
Laughter in Three Languages at Actors' Summit in Hudson, Ohio (October 7 - 17) and 
a return engagement to Sanibel, Florida, where they will perform The Gin Game.

In addition to their lives as actors and directors, the Silvers are master 
storytellers, performing readings for audiences throughout the United States as 
well as in Israel, the former Soviet Union and the United Kingdom.  Their 
material ranges from the Jewish immigrant experience featured in this performance 
to selections drawn from world theatre, literature and poetry.

They first began to perform works in the Yiddish language 15 years ago. 
Laughter in Three Languages features their unique format of theatricalized 
storytelling, which uses Yiddish, English and the imperfect amalgam of the two, 
"Yinglish."  Their performances have delighted both Jewish and non-Jewish audiences, 
since every story is immediately translated into English and is, therefore, 
totally accessible.  The program details the humor, frustration and 
achievements of the immigrant experience - an historic part of this nation's life that is 
relevant to all audiences.  We all came from "somewhere else" after all!

Enjoy a unique evening of readings with master storytellers, Dorothy and 
Reuben Silver as they perform a delightful series of vignettes about the immigrant
