TANGERINE TROUSERS
and RAISIN PICKERS

Saturday, May 15
8:00 PM

Tangerine Trousers
JUST WON BEST ACOUSTIC GROUP AND RECORDING at 2004 DETROIT MUSIC AWARDS!
With a sound described as "Alison Krauss & Union Station meets Barenaked Ladies," the Trousers weave together incredible vocal harmonies, infectious energy, eclectic instrumentation, and pop sensibility in their innovative approach to roots-flavored Americana music. All that, and a live show that'll knock your trousers off!

The group, formed in Detroit, MI around the husband-wife songwriting team of John & CJ Milroy, has released three CD's to date, garnering numerous "Best Of" awards along with national press from the likes of Performing Songwriter and No Depression magazines (who called the Trousers "an unassuming powerhouse!"). The Trousers won the 2003 Detroit Music Award for "Outstanding Folk Artist/Group", and have just won two more DMA's this year, including "Outstanding Acoustic Group" and "Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Recording" for their "Dressed for Success" CD!

The Raisin Pickers hails from Manchester Michigan, a historical little town along the River Raisin, (their namesake). And much like this river, the path of the Raisin Pickers' has stretched from Upper Canada, to Branson, Nebraska and West Virginia. They won a blue ribbon at the Appalachian String Band Festival in West Virginia, have opened the Ark's Ann Arbor Folk Festival, recorded four records over the years and spearheaded a new festival in their hometown. They continue touring throughout the Midwest and Canada and organize the Riverfolk Festival held the first Saturday of August in Manchester Michigan.

HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN
with special guests
Adrienne Young and Little Sadie

Saturday, May 22
8:00 PM

Formed in the late 1990s by guitarist Whit Smith and violinist Elana Fremerman, and now including bassist Jake Erwin, the Hot Club of Cowtown has established itself as one of the hardest working bands in show business. They don't go home after a tour and work on their cars or their hair or their dance moves. The Hot Club of Cowtown, Austin, TX's celebrated hot jazz and western swing trio, goes home and plays happy hours at the Continental Club—just to be able to play some more. The Hot Club's first few albums melded the sounds of Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt, Texas dancehalls and Tin Pan Alley, proving that it was indeed possible to "throw away all our rock and roll ideas," and make like it was 1939 all over again. Over the last few years, the band has gradually discovered its own voice, placing increased emphasis on innovative instrumental arrangements and original, highly personal songwriting. "Ghost Train," their newest album, has already inspired comparisons to contemporary
artists like Norah Jones, Nickel Creek, and Gillian Welch, but none of those really do justice to the Hot Club's incredible virtuosity and authentically vintage sensibilities. They continue to forge new paths through the annals of American music.

Adrienne Young and Little Sadie
Young has a pure and unaffected vocal sound with a sweet low soprano. She plays rhythm guitar and fine clawhammer banjo. Her band contributes tasteful violin, mandolin, drums and upright bass. Her thinly released solo debut, 2003s "plow to the End of the Road" reached number 8 on the Americana radio play chart, is still in the top 40 and has outrun the first printing of its Grammy-nominated packaging. Her music is now getting play on country radio, her just-released video is gaining traction on country music television and she won the Chris Austin Songwriting contest at Merlefest 2003.

Advance discount tickets: $15.00
Day of Show: $18.00

PERFECT STRANGERS
and CLEAR FORK

Friday, May 28
8:00 PM

The five musicians calling themselves Perfect Strangers are of course, no strangers at all to those who have followed the bluegrass and old-time music scenes of the last three or four decades. Jody Stecher has been associated with numerous bands and projects, but is perhaps best known for the series of old time duet albums with his wife Kate Brislin on the Rounder label. Like Stecher a talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Chris Brashear has starred in bands like Kentucky Rose and has been, like Perfect Strangers guitarist Peter McLaughlin, a mainstay of Laurie Lewis' band, Grant Street. In times past Bob Black held down the banjo slot in Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys, while the fifth Stranger, bassist Forrest Rose, also a onetime Monroe sideman, has performed with Kenny Baker and singer-songwriter David Olney as well.

Clear Fork Bluegrass Quartet combines the drive and melodies of Celtic fiddle tunes as played in the Appalachian Mountains, African-American Blues and Baptist gospel harmonies. The musicians perform on fiddle, acoustic bass, guitar, mandolin, banjo and vocals and draw on multiple sources of traditional American music for inspiration. Their fresh, eclectic style has been heard on Garrison Keillor's "American Radio Company" program, West Virginia Public Radio's "Mountain Stage" and other radio programs. From fiery banjo instrumentals to sweet country waltzes, Clear Fork's strong musical abilities and genuine affection for the spirit of traditional American music emerge delightfully.
