WEATHERVANE PLAYHOUSE announces
Cast for Dan Goggin's NUNSENSE
(May 21, 2004) Weathervane Playhouse urges you to "heed the call" when they=
=20
present Dan Goggin's heavenly musical comedy NUNSENSE June 9 - July 3, 2004.=
=20
This production is sponsored in part by Roetzel & Andress.
The Playwright
Dan Goggin moved from Alma, Michigan to New York City to sing plainsong and=20
Gregorian chant in John Osbourne's biographical hit play "Luther." He becam=
e a=20
member of the folk duo, The Saxons. Knowing Goggin had been a product of=20
Catholic schools and a seminarian in Detroit, a friend sent him a Dominican=20=
nun's=20
habit as a gift. A borrowed mannequin dressed in the habit triggered the=20
notion of greeting cards-but then the mannequin had to change expressions. =20
Goggin's actress friend Marilyn Farina agreed to don the habit and pose for=20
pictures. The resulting series sold 35,000 cards in two days at the Nationa=
l Show=20
that year, plus a spin-off in note pads and T-shirts. Farina was asked to a=
ppear=20
at a card promotion so Goggin named her Sister Cardelia and wrote her a=20
script. That promotion in 1984 developed into Nunsense by way of a four-day=
=20
engagement at the Duplex which stretched to 38 weeks. Goggin wrote the musi=
c,=20
lyrics and sketches and kept moving the wacky production into bigger theater=
s. It=20
continues to play in 32 countries, including Australia and has become a=20
mainstay in theaters across the United States. Meanwhile, Goggin has applie=
d for=20
admission to the Little Order of Hoboken, but Sister Mary Cardelia says she=20=
is=20
much too busy with "Nunsense" to answer any letters.
Background
The Order of the Little Sisters of Hoboken was founded in the seventh centur=
y=20
by Saint Wilfred, a bishop of England, who established the first convent and=
=20
school named Wilfred Academy. Years later, a pioneering group of sisters se=
t=20
out to establish a motherhouse in Cleveland but landed in Newark instead. I=
t=20
was at that time the order elected to change its name to the Little Sisters=20=
of=20
Hoboken, affectionately known as the "Little Hobos." The order now does goo=
d=20
works in the Diocese of Newark and operates the Mount Saint Helen's School i=
n=20
Hoboken.

has an extensive background in opera, oratorio and musical theatre as a=20
performer, director and teacher. Ken co-directed Weathervane's A Funny Thin=
g=20
