NEWS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

This summer, Montrose Zion United Methodist Church in West Akron
will host the premiere season of the Akron Summer Music Festival. The
festival is organized by Bath resident and internationally acclaimed
pianist Tatsuya Nagashima with Professor Mayumi Kikuchi of Akron
University. In its first season, the Akron Summer Music Festival is
presenting three exciting concerts on the last three Saturdays in July
(17, 24 and 31). The festival offers "a new generation of classical
concerts" to break the barrier between audience and performer. Their
innovative programming includes cross-disciplinary projects with an
actor and a visual artist. During the concert, the audience will also
have a chance to interact with performers in the "trivia quiz CD
giveaway" and the "ask the performer" Q&A sessions.

The opening concert will be a piano recital by Mr. Nagashima on
July 17. First prize winner of over 20 international and national
competitions, including the Ibla Grand Prize International Piano
Competition in Italy and the Los Angeles Chopin Competition, Nagashima
has performed in the world's most prestigious concert halls, from
Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York to the Musikverein in
Vienna, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, and London's Royal Albert Hall. As
a guest soloist, he has performed with the world's leading orchestras,
such as London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Symphony
Orchestra Berlin, American Symphony, Russian National Symphony, Kiev
Symphony, St. Petersburg Orchestra and many others. He is known for his
"poetic pianism" (London Daily Press), "decisive, powerful playing"
(Fanfare Magazine, USA) "wide range of color and musicality" (NY
FrontLine),"technical excellence and the ability to instill a real depth
of emotion into music" (South Bend Tribune, IN) and often hailed as "a
world class pianist" (News Moscow). Mr. Nagashima will perform works by
Schubert, Chopin, and a new work by an emerging American composer, Ryan
Carter. The program also includes a cross-disciplinary performance of
Grieg's Holberg Suite; between movements of the suite, an actor will
read poems by Norwegian writer Ludvig Holberg, to whom Grieg dedicated
the composition.

The second concert, on July 24, is a breathtaking violin recital by
Jeremy Preston. Preston first came to public attention at age 16 when
he performed Barber's virtuosic Violin Concerto with the Catskill
Symphony Orchestra in New York. Since then, he has performed in Canada,
Brazil, and major concert halls in the United States, including Lincoln
Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York City, Symphony Hall, Ozawa Hall,
and Jordan Hall in Boston, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and
Severance Hall in Cleveland. He has also performed at such major music
festivals as Tanglewood, Spoleto USA and the Blossom Music Festival.
William Preucil, renowned concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra,
described Preston as "a fantastic violinist who has the ability to touch
a listener's heart." Joining with Nagashima, they will perform
masterful violin sonatas by Beethoven, Brahms and Janacek. During this
concert, they are inviting a local visual artist to paint an impression
of the concert. The painting will be auctioned later for next year's
ASMF fund.

The last concert of the season, the Festival Gala Concert on July
31, is a showcase of exceptional artists from the Akron/Cleveland area.
Energetic tenor Weldon Lee Gan, from the Cleveland Opera, will perform
songs by Mozart and Rossini, guest cellist Kimberly Shimpo will join
Nagashima and Preston to perform Beethoven's "Ghost" Trio, and
outstanding pianist Mayumi Kikuchi, a piano faculty at the University of
Akron, will join Nagashima and the Festival Ensemble to perform Bach's
Concerto for two pianos.

All Akron Summer Music Festival concerts will start at 7 pm at
Montrose Zion United Methodist Church at 565 N. Cleveland-Massillon Rd.
Season subscriptions for all three concerts are $27, or $18 for students
and seniors. Tickets for individual concerts are $10, or $7 for
students and seniors. Credit cards accepted for online purchase. For
more information or to order tickets, visit www.AkronSMF.com or call
(330) 668-0129.
