Near West Theatre Opens Sondheim's "Anyone Can Whistle"=20

Near West Theatre continues its 26th Season with Anyone Can =
Whistle-Stephen Sondheim's absurdist social satire about insanity and =
conformity. The show runs July 29 through August 8.=20

After writing lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy, and making his debut =
as a composer with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, =
Sondheim gave the world its first glimpse of his rebel genius in Anyone =
Can Whistle.=20

The show tells the story of a town that's gone bankrupt because its only =
industry is                             manufacturing something that =
never wears out. In an attempt to save face, a conniving                 =
    Mayor and town council stage a fake miracle to attract tourists. But =
when patients at the                 local mental hospital, the Cookie =
Jar, escape and mix with the tourists and townspeople,                 =
chaos ensues. Songs are solid gold Sondheim with gems like "There Won't =
Be Trumpets" and             "Everyone Says Don't."

Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday =
matinee starts at 3 p.m.  All tickets are $6 and include general =
admission seating. Parking is free and guarded. Reservations are =
