THE 126th SEASON OF OBERLIN COLLEGE'S ESTEEMED ARTIST RECITAL SERIES KICKS=20
OFF OCTOBER 14

<Editors please note: Complete concert schedule is included and digital=20
photos are available by contacting Marci Janas.>

July 30, 2004 -- Oberlin College's Artist Recital Series, one of the oldest =

continuing concert series in the United States, launches the 2004-2005=20
season -- its 126th -- with works by the dazzling violinist and Oberlin=20
graduate Jennifer Koh Thursday, October 14.

Season subscription tickets are now available for the eight-concert series, =

which is remarkable this year for the number of Oberlin Conservatory alumni =

included on the roster. All concert performances for the series take place=20
in Oberlin's historic Finney Chapel.

Also appearing on the series this year: pianist Kotaro Fukuma, cellist=20
Steven Isserlis (a 1980 alumnus), the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by=20
Oliver Knussen and featuring concertmaster William Preucil as soloist, the=20
International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), which is comprised almost=20
exclusively of Conservatory alumni, the Pacifica Quartet (two-fourths of=20
whom are alumni), organist Olivier Latry, and mezzo soprano Lorraine Hunt=20
Lieberson.

A special offer accompanies purchase of the complete, eight-concert series: =

those who subscribe before October 1 may purchase a second eight-concert=20
package at half price. Prices for the series package are $46 for students;=20
$125 for Oberlin College faculty, staff, alumni, parents, area public=20
school teachers, and senior citizens; and $142 for the general public. All=20
seats are reserved and free parking is available throughout the campus.=20
Single tickets will be available for purchase after September 27. Tickets=20
purchased at the door the day of the performance are an additional $3.=20
Concert artists, programs, and dates are subject to change. Finney Chapel=20
is wheelchair accessible and is located on the southwest corner of Lorain=20
St. (Route 511) and N. Professor St., across from Tappan Square.

Please call Oberlin's Central Ticket Service (CTS) 24-hour reservation line =

(440-775-8169) for complete ticket information or to request a free=20
brochure. The CTS box office is located in the lobby of Hall Auditorium, 67 =

N. Main St. (Route 58), between the Oberlin Inn and the Allen Memorial Art=20
Museum. Box office hours are Monday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m.

Detailed information about the performers, dates, and times for this year's =

Artist Recital Series is available online at Oberlin.edu/con. For=20
additional information, please call
440-775-8169.

Since the inception of the Artist Recital Series in 1878, more than 1,000=20
of the most acclaimed and accomplished musicians, conductors, orchestras,=20
chamber ensembles, and composers have graced the stage of Finney Chapel.=20
Stars of such international stature as Eugene Ysa=FFe, Yo-Yo Ma, Vladimir=20
Horowitz, Isaac Stern, Jascha Heifetz, Glenn Gould, Sergei Rachmaninoff,=20
and Denyce Graves, to name but a few, have performed under the auspices of=20
the series. Since 1919, The Cleveland Orchestra has appeared on the series=20
every season for a total of 203 performances under the baton of such=20
illustrious--and varied--conductors as Nikolai Sokoloff (38 times), Artur=20
Rodzinski (25 times), George Szell (60 times), Robert Shaw, Pierre Boulez,=20
Lorin Maazel, Simon Rattle, Yoel Levi, Christoph von Dohn=E1nyi, Vladimir=20
Ashkenazy, Jahja Ling, Robert Spano, Franz Welser-M=F6st, Mitskuko Uchida,=20
and Steven Smith. More than an impressive "Who=92s Who," the list of =
artists=20
and ensembles to appear on the series is an illumination of the best of=20
classical music, spanning the late 19th century to the present.

In addition to enriching the College, the town of Oberlin, and the=20
surrounding community with performances by the preeminent musicians of our=20
time, the Artist Recital Series engages these musicians for master classes=20
and workshops for Oberlin Conservatory students. Most of these sessions are =

free and open to the public, offering a rare glimpse into the world of a=20
working studio, where performance and technique are analyzed, crafted, and, =

occasionally, perfected. For listings of open master classes, please visit=20
the Conservatory=92s online calendar, found on Oberlin.edu/con.

The Artist Recital Series is sponsored by the Oberlin Conservatory of Music =

at Oberlin College with additional support from the Friends of the Artist=20
Recital Series. To become a member of the Friends of the Artist Recital=20
Series, please call 440-775-5530. Membership fees are tax deductible and=20
members receive recognition in concert programs and invitations to=20
post-concert receptions with guest artists.

Media sponsorship for the Artist Recital Series is provided by WCLV=20
104.9-FM, Cleveland's classical music radio station, WVIZ and 90.3-WCPN=20
ideastream, and Northern Ohio Live magazine.
