Broadway Diva Linda Eder To Appear=20

For Transitional Housing Benefit

CLEVELAND -  Broadway diva Linda Eder will join forces with The =
Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the nearly 100 voice North Coast Men's =
Chorus in a holiday concert to benefit Transitional Housing, Inc. at =
Severance Hall at 8:00 PM on December 7.  All proceeds from the event =
will go directly to supporting the programs of Transitional Housing, =
Inc.  Tickets range in price from $20 to $150 and go on sale exclusively =
through the Severance Hall Box Office (216-231-1111 or 800-686-1141) =
beginning September 7.

Ms. Eder has been touring in concert with some of the most prestigious =
symphony orchestras and conductors in North America.  She has sold out =
Carnegie Hall three times, prompting nationally syndicated columnist Liz =
Smith to enthuse, "I think the word diva, as in divine, is called for.  =
What a powerhouse of a voice, what stunning musicality and phrasing, =
what a great mysterious sense of warmth, what a wonderful way to spend =
an evening." =20

Transitional Housing's Board President, Robert Rensel sees this event =
as, "the most significant step we've ever taken in terms of fundraising. =
 As government funding for programs such as ours continues to diminish, =
it's become critical that we expand out into the community for =
meaningful support.  This concert with Linda Eder provides us with a =
wonderful opportunity to do just that."=20

event," said Rich Cole, Music Director of the North Coast Men's Chorus.  =
"It's a thrill on so many levels.  It will be our first appearance on =
the stage of Severance Hall, our first opportunity to sing with Ms. =

The critically acclaimed Cleveland Jazz Orchestra's Executive Director, =
Bob Keesecker, echoes the same sentiments adding, "We are really looking =

Transitional Housing, Inc. (THI) was founded in 1986 in response to a =
serious shortage of safe, decent and affordable housing for women who =
have become homeless for a variety of reasons including economic crisis, =
domestic violence, and substance abuse.  The need continues to this day. =
 As many as 64 women reside at THI for up to two years.  THI provides =
the education services and support essential to achieving personal and =
financial independence.  All residents participate in a personal =
development program that includes both on-site classes and connects them =
with community services, employment training, and educational =
opportunities.  After a resident transitions to independent living, THI =
continues to provide follow-up services.  Since 1986, nearly 1,200 women =
have transformed their lives through THI's unique program.

"The funds raised at this event will enable us to continue to help women =
help themselves," said THI Executive Director, Sr. Donna Hawk.  "By =
providing a safe and supportive environment, Transitional Housing =
affords women the time to assess what they are good at, and what they =
want to do to support themselves. =20

"Right now we have several women who have become licensed nurse's =
assistants and are moving toward nursing careers, one who is interning =
at Lewis NASA, and several are working in the food service industry.  =
All of them are on the road to permanent jobs with benefits and stable =
housing.  The good effect on society is measurable as they move from =
dependency to independence.  The success and relationships built here at =
THI have life-long results."=20
