Karamu Performing Arts Youth Theatre presents an encore presentation of =
last season's youth hit Babies Having Babies, Saturdays and Sundays at =
2:00p.m.

At last: good news about teenage pregnancies-they're decreasing! Thanks =
to education, intervention, and prevention programs throughout the area, =
Cuyahoga County's teen pregnancy rate has actually declined since 2002. =
Karamu House, the nation's oldest African-American cultural arts =
institution, contributes to the discussion of this very important topic =
through dramatization.

"We had such an overwhelming response to the show when we produced it =
last season," says Karamu House Artistic Director, Terrence Spivey, "It =
just made sense to bring it back." The play, by Kathryn Montgomery and =
Jeffrey Auerbach, was originally a CBS Schoolbreak Special that won four =
Daytime Emmys. Sometimes funny, sometimes frank, Babies Having Babies is =
an honest look at the pressures and challenges young women must cope =
with when faced with an unplanned pregnancy.=20

"Theater is a great way to educate," says Kinyatta Taylor, Senior =
Program Facilitator of the YWCA of Cleveland's Project Redirection, a =
program designed to help teen parents develop essential parenting and =
life skills.  Ms. Taylor, plays the role of Mrs. Chapman in the =
September 18th opening performance and will lead a talkback with the =
audience and Babies Having Babies cast.   "I learned so much doing this =
play," says Katrina Benamon, a junior at the Cleveland School of the =
Arts who plays Kelly, "I hope others can learn from it, too." =20

 Lisa Langford is director of this production. Karamu's Youth theatre =
productions are sponsored in part by The Cleveland Foundation, The =
George Gund Foundation, Ralph Tyler Company and The Ohio Arts Council.
