Subject: [NEohioPAL]Auditions for Tuesdays with Morrie at Cleveland Play House
Message-ID: <01C49FE2.19113580.sgordon at clevelandplayhouse.com>

The Cleveland Play House will hold auditions for Tuesdays with Morrie, by
Mitch Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher, on Sunday, October 3.

Tuesdays with Morrie will rehearse December 10-January 2, and perform
January 4-30. The director is Seth Gordon. Actors will be signed to an AEA
LORT contract, with full time rehearsals and performances. There will be no
rehearsals on December 25 and January 1, but rehearsals will take place
through the holiday season. Please audition only if you are available and
if you believe you fit the character descriptions below.

Auditions will take place at the Cleveland Play House Sunday, October 3
from Noon until 8:00PM. We will see AEA actors first, and then sign up
non-AEA actors once all AEA actors have been given time slots. Please call
216 795 7000 x207 or respond to this email to request a time and receive
more information.

Here are the character descriptions-

MORRIE

The character is 78 years old, and the actor should certainly pass for that
age, though we are looking for an actor who can withstand the physical
rigors of a demanding lead role. A mentsch. A very warm, kind and generous
man with a very active emotional life. A sprite, with a lightness of spirit
and a sense of humor. Morrie is suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease, and
we see his physical deterioration as the play progresses. His outlook on
life is very positive, though that means in part that his approach to
grieving about his impending death is very healthy and honest. An actor
light enough to be carried on stage by the actor playing Mitch is preferred
but not a necessity.

MITCH

Early 40's. Mitch is a sports journalist and TV/Radio personality. On TV,
he's the kind of good looking high energy smart aleck one associates with
sports TV, though we see a different side of him here. He is glib and
sharp-witted. Mitch has spent most of his life running from the kind of
emotional openness being generous with others can bring. He thinks
fulfillment comes from career success, and that confronting human issues
will only get in the way. The play is his journey of self-discovery as he
learns, from Morrie, that showing up for someone, in every way, can be a
path to personal fulfillment. A handsome actor with a formidable emotional
range.
