If you (or someone you know) have an interest in the
preservation of old buildings in Cleveland, do we
have just the project for you! St. Paul Lutheran
Church at 1486 East 55th Street is a historical
landmark built in 1896, sitting on the near east side
of the city. Its building is in dire need of repair
and restoration, but due to the lack of funds, may end
up closing its doors permanently.
These are just some of the things in need of repair:
-The roof needs to be replaced (preferably slate, since the original roof was slate, but a good quality roofing system is also welcome).
-Electrical system and wiring updated
-Plumbing
-Replastering and painting the walls
-Tuck-pointing (mortar repair) on the exterior bricks
-Sandstone front steps repaired or replaced
On the upside, the church is a hub of activity for
many in the community at hand, and has been
serving the it's people for over 100 years.
Unfortunately, they are mostly low income families
and street people in need of food, clothing or
spiritual nourishment. These folks can hardly supply the
financial support that is so desperately needed to
keep the lights on, water running and doors opened.
THIS IS A PLEA FOR HELP!
If you are looking for a charity to support, please
ponder and pray about this one.
If you have maintenance/repair skill(s) and time
you can offer, we are open to that also.
The church has an awesome HOLTKAMP PIPE ORGAN that
is just waiting for talented persons (i.e. Any organ
majors at Oberlin College or Cleveland Institute of
Music, for example?) with a desire to demonstrate
their skills.
Please contact: The church office at 216-361-0400.
Ask for:
Pastor Harold Bode or Deaconess Gladys Gilmore
