KARAMU T.O.P.S. 2004-2005 SEASON

The T.O.P.S (Theater Outreach Performance Series) department at Karamu =
House in Cleveland, Ohio, is proud to announce its 2004-2005 season.

We have something for all ages, and we are sure to have something to fit =
your needs. We are available for bookings at your site or ours.  We =
perform at schools, universities and other facilities.  We hope that =
after seeing what we are offering, you will consider letting us perform =

Below is a list of programs that we offer.

IJAPA THE TORTOISE

This play is based on the folktales of the Yoruba people of Nigeria.  =
Ijapa is a clever trickster and is known for being conniving, greedy, =
lazy, and self-serving.  He is frequently trying to outwit his =
neighbors, only to be caught in the end.  (Grades K-6)  Price: $425

FLY EAGLE, FLY

This unique parable comes to life as two storytellers (A Homeboy and a =
Businessman) provide the words, movement and sounds, building a bridge =
between us and our Motherland, with the use of standard narration and =
slam poetry weaving between the beat of African drums. (All ages) Price: =
$375

LANGSTON LISTENS TO AMERICA

Most of America remembers Langston Hughes as an icon of the artistic and =
intellectual achievement of the Harlem Renaissance.  However, he also =
used his poetic genius to speak about key social issues that shaped an =
entire culture. You are sure to enjoy this dramatization of some of his =
most significant poems.( Middle & High Schools) Price: $425

LANGSTON LISTENS ( SPECIAL EDITION)

This production offers the same poetry as Langston Listens to America =
with the addition of scenes from A Soul Gone Home, Simply Heavenly and =
passages from a 1943 article written by Langston and presented in =
Readers Theater format. (High Schools, Colleges & Festivals) Price: $525

for colored girls who have considered suicide/

 when the rainbow is enuf

Before the female empowered "Waiting to Exhale" and the poeticism of =
Russell Simmons' "Def Poetry Jam" there was Ntozake Shange's landmark =
play termed a choreopoem. It is a breakthrough portrayal of the black =
female experience woven with words, music and dance. ( High Schools, =
Colleges & Festivals) Price: $800

Prices for dual performances on the same day are double the original =
price less one hundred dollars. For example:

$425/$750 one /two performances

$375/650 one/two performances

Workshops are available in drama, creative writing, African dance and =
drumming. Workshops are $100 each. If you book a performance and =
workshop on the same day the workshop fee is $50.=20

Fees also include resource material for teachers and transportation =
expenses. Additional charges may apply to locations outside of Cuyahoga =
