In order to be included in IMPORTANT federal research on the influence
of "Creative Industries" (i.e. to increase funding for the arts on a
federal/state/and local level) we all need to sign up for a DUNS number.
I was shocked when I went to the OAC meeting last Monday, and they
passed out a research report intended to show legislators how important
the arts are to our economy, and under the category of # of dance
organizations in OHIO, the number was THREE!!! While I am prone to
focus on dance, this report includes all "Creative Industries" (that's YOU).
I did some leg work to figure out how the heck they tallied the
"creative industry" and found a place on the Americans for the Arts
website, where they discuss the need to sign up for a DUNS number. I am
urging all of you (as organizations AND as individual artists - and
please encourage your colleagues) to sign up for a number, so that we
can show these "researchers" how prevelant the arts are in Ohio! We
NEED to be counted and included in federal AND statewide arts research,
in order to demonstrate our contributions to the creative arts industries!.
Let's make Ohio COUNT!
A National Campaign to Register Artists and Nonprofit Arts Organizations
with Dun & Bradstreet
Americans for the Arts is urging all artists and arts organizations to
get their own free Dun & Bradstreet <http://www.dnb.com/us/> (D&B)
number--or if they already have a D&B number, to ensure that they are
accurately coded as an arts organization or artist. Why? Because we have
developed a new annual research initiative, Creative Industries, that
uses D&B data to document the number of arts-related businesses and
employees in any geographical region or political jurisdiction. If you
don't have a D&B number you are not represented in the data, and our
analysis suggests a vast under-representation of nonprofit arts
organizations and artists. So SIGN UP AND BE COUNTED as part of this
potent visibility and advocacy tool for advancing the arts in America.
