TRY TO REMEMBER…

OLDE TOWNE HALL THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITNONS FOR OUR 25th ANNIVERSARY PRODUCTION OF

The Fantasticks

The Olde Towne Hall theatre began its first formal season with The Fantasticks, 25 years ago, and this season we are reviving the show to celebrate 25 years of great community theatre.

No other New York stage production has ever played so many performances. The Fantasticks has become the longest-running musical in the world, and with good reason. At the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.

The Fantasticks tells the tale of the neighboring fathers of Luisa and Matt, though good friends feel they must appear as enemies to make sure that their children fall in love. Having thought up this bit of logic they next find a way to reverse themselves by hiring El Gallo, aided by the Old Actor and The Indian, to perform a mock abduction by moonlight so that Matt might prove his valor, thus paving the way for reconciliation. But daylight reveals the parental deception; the lovers quarrel, and young Matt goes off to see the world. After a number of horrible experiences, he returns home to Luisa’s waiting arms.

This most memorable musical score includes the songs; Try to Remember, Soon it’s Going to Rain, I Can See It, They Were You, and Never Say No.
