Actors=E2=80=99 Summit Theater announces a special election year offering, G=
ive =E2=80=98Em=20
Hell, Harry, a one man show chronicling the life and accomplishments of Harr=
y=20
S. Truman. The performance features one of Ohio=E2=80=99s foremost actors, W=
ayne S.=20
Turney. The play will have a preview performance on Thursday, October 28, an=
d=20
plays through November 14 at Actors=E2=80=99 Summit Theater in downtown Huds=
on.=20
=20
The Play
            Written by Samuel Gallu, the play premiered at Ford=E2=80=99s Th=
eater in=20
Washington, DC starring James Whitmore. That first audience included Margare=
t=20
Truman and President Gerald Ford.
            The play is a reminiscence of Truman=E2=80=99s personal life and=
=20
political career. From his decision to drop the first atomic bomb, to his re=
cognition=20
of the State of Israel; from his fight for civil rights for African American=
s=20
to his unexpected win over Thomas Dewey in 1948, Truman was involved in a=20
remarkable range of critical issues. During his tenure in the White House he=
 saw=20
the emergence of the iron curtain, the Berlin airlift, the Korean War, and t=
he=20
return of the United States to a peacetime economy. He spoke out against the=
=20
excesses of the McCarthy era and its witch hunt for non-existent communists.=
 In=20
many people=E2=80=99s minds he will always be remembered for firing Douglas=20=
MacArthur=20
for insubordination over the conduct of the Korean War.
            His legendary devotion to his wife, Bess, and his daughter,=20
Margaret are presented with warmth and humor. Although he was the only presi=
dent of=20
the 20th century to not attend college, he speaks movingly of the importance=
=20
of great art and his love of music.=20
            The production is directed by Neil Thackaberry and costumed by=20
MaryJo Alexander.
=20
Performance Schedule
