Lakeland Theatre

announces auditions for

Born Yesterday

By Garson Kanin

Directed by Martin Friedman

Sets and Lights Designed by Keith Nagy

Costumes Designed by Craig Thomas Sound Design by Bill Amato

This is a particularly relevant play. Both political and romantic. And, it has a happy ending!

Great roles! Not professionally done in Cleveland in years.

Auditions:

Monday, November 15, 2004 7:00pm till 9:00pm

Tuesday, November 16, 2004 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Sorry, no Equity contracts for this production. I will have two contracts available for Lakeland's summer production of GRAND HOTEL. No need to prepare a monologue. I will have you read directly from the script. You only have to come to one audition. I will hear you read and send you on your way.

Callbacks or additional auditions only as necessary. ALL ROLES ARE COMPENSATED.

Production and Rehearsal dates:

Born Yesterday will open on Friday, February 4 and run through February 20, 2005. There will be one school matinees on Thursday, February 10. Of course, you will be compensated for all performances. Rehearsals will begin with read-throughs in December, dependent upon the cast's schedules. I am a good scheduler... consequently I won't waste your time. Rehearsals will begin in earnest in January.

The Roles:

Billie Dawn: Between 25 and 30 years old. One of the great roles in American theatre. Created by Judy Holliday

Harry Brock: Between 35 and 45 years old. Has been played physically heavy. Not necessary in this production.Weight is metaphor for craven appetites. Played by Brodrick Crawford in film version. Wonderful role.

Paul Verrall: Between 28 and 40 years old. Played by William Holden in the film version. Not exactly Henry Higgins...

Ed Devery: Between 35 and 50 years old. May be played by female. Self-loathing is the word of the day for Mr/Ms Devery.

Senator Norval Hedges: Between 45 and 65years.You may want to pattern your portrayal over some of our sitting politicians... or not. Perhaps a woman will be cast here too. They can be corrupted....

Mrs. Hedges: Between 35 and 45 years. If the Senator is a woman then the senator's partner will be the opposite gender.

Eddie Brock: Between 25 and 45 years. A bit of a thug...

There will be doubling of some of the smaller roles of which there are several.

The aforementioned roles are great and demand great actors!

For more information please feel free to either email me, Martin Friedman, at martinfriedman98 at yahoo.com or call 440.525.7034 (and press #1 to bypass the message).
