Acclaimed Cellist and Alumnus Steven Isserlis, Joined by Pianist Robert=20
Levin, Performs Dec. 14

OBERLIN, OHIO --The acclaimed cellist Steven Isserlis '80, Time Out=20
London's "classical artist of the year" for 2002, joins forces with pianist =

Robert Levin for an all-Beethoven evening in Finney Chapel Tuesday,=20
December 14, at 8 p.m.

The concert, part of Oberlin's Artist Recital Series, features two sets of=20
the composer's variations on The Magic Flute and two sonatas, the F Major,=20
Op. 5 and the A Major, Op. 69.

Reserved-seat tickets are $10 for students, $22 for seniors, area=20
educators, and those with an Oberlin College I.D., and $26 for the general=20
public and are available through Oberlin's Central Ticket Service. Please=20
call 440-775-8169 for more information.

Isserlis is a cellist whose passion for music transcends conventional=20
divisions. Acclaimed world-wide for his musicality as well as his=20
technique, he is equally at home drawing the audience into his circle of=20
friends for chamber music or in recital, delving into the historical=20
archives to emerge with a forgotten gem, or on the concert platform with=20
some of the world=92s most prestigious orchestras and conductors.

When the London magazine Time Out named him "Classical Artist of the Year"=20
for 2002, the editors wrote: "Musicians who make acclaimed debuts in their=20
teens aren't all that rare. The test lies in developing from whizkid to=20
mature artist. Steven Isserlis has passed with flying colours as an=20
internationally known cellist."

His partner for the evening, Robert Levin, has given recitals, chamber=20
concerts, and appeared as a concerto soloist throughout Europe and the=20
United States.

Equally at home at the fortepiano, Levin has appeared with the Orchestra of =

the 18th Century under Frans Br=FCggen, the English Baroque Soloists under=20
John Eliot Gardiner, the Handel & Haydn Society and the Academy of Ancient=20
Music, both under Christopher Hogwood, and with the London Classical=20
Players under Roger Norrington.

Levin is unique among today=92s pianists in his restoration of the =
Classical=20
period practice of improvised embellishments and cadenzas ? his Mozart and=20
Beethoven performances, for example, have been hailed for their mastery of=20
the Classical musical language.
