DOC SEVERINSEN IN CLEVELAND FEB. 17-18, 2005
The Cleveland Institute of Musics Womens Committee will bring Doc Severinsen and his trio to Severance Hall to perform with Carl Topilow and the CIM Orchestra on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. Doc will also teach a trumpet master class on Thursday, February 17 beginning at 2:00 p.m. and will join local officials and others at the ice breaking for CIMs expansion project on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Docs master class is FREE and open to the public. Its an amazing opportunity for musicians in high school and college to learn from a true master. The audience will be able to hear this virtuosic performer share his technique and performance secrets as he critiques selected CIM trumpet students who will be invited to perform.
The official groundbreaking ceremony for CIMs expansion project is an opportunity for the public to see the new plans and model for CIMs additions of teaching, practice, and performance space. First, an update on the project will be shared, then everyone will gather outside as Doc helps to break the ice on this new era in CIMs history. There will be music, ice sculptures, hot chocolate and more.
The main event will begin at 8:00 that evening, as the Womens Committees benefit for CIM gets into full swing. Benefit patrons will enjoy cocktails, a silent auction, dinner and dessert beginning at 6:30 p.m., in addition to premier box and dress circle seating for the concert. Anyone interested in receiving more information on the complete benefit package can contact the Cleveland Institute of Music at (216) 791-5000, ext. 311. Tickets for the concert only are $35 and $48 and can be purchased by calling the Severance Hall Box Office at (216) 231-1111.
Doc and his trio have been heating up audiences from coast to coast since The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson ended in 1992. From big band standards to jazz and the classics, audiences around the country are finally hearing the depth of Docs talent. Northeast Ohioans will quickly learn that Doc can blow a horn like no other, and will be delighted to see that he hasnt lost his flair for outrageous fashion and witty banter. Regarded as one of the worlds most technically proficient trumpeters, hes a high-note virtuoso.
Call the Cleveland Institute of Music at (216) 791-5000 or visit cim.edu for more information.
