THIS SATURDAY.....
The Geauga Lyric Theater Guild Presents a black history celebration:
"ANOTHER BRANCH OF LIFE"
January 15th, 2005 at 7:00pm at the Geauga Theater.
The Geauga Theater will celebrate Black History with a storytelling and
musical performance titled Another Branch of Life, starring Robin Echols
Cooper and many of her special friends. Ms. Echols Cooper will take the
audience on a journey that will trace her family's heritage.
The adventure begins in Spring Creek, Alabama in the early 1800's where a
family makes their living on a sharecropping farm. The family struggles
through the Great Depression, experiencing trials and heart-warming moments.
Some colorful characters include Ms. Battles; a stern schoolteacher that
teaches the children the palm is the mirror to the soul. Ms. Natty Cakes is
a dramatic woman who occupies the mourning bench at the church.
Members of the cast include children from Lake and Geauga counties. The kids
will be singing to the music of David Young. Mr. Young is a professional
musician who can be heard in television, radio, and film. He has performed
with Moody Blues, Eric Carmen, and the Cleveland Orchestra, and has also
composed music for various video games including Sonic the Hedgehog.
Ms. Echols Cooper is a folklorist, dramatist, storyteller, and doll artist.
She graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelors degree in
Communications, and has been telling stories professionally since 1992. Her
handcrafted dolls are showcased in various libraries, schools, and homes
throughout the United States.
Tickets for Another Branch of Life are $5.00, and may be purchased at the
Geauga Theater Box Office on the Chardon Square, 101 Water Street, Chardon,
Ohio 44024, or by calling (440) 286-2255.
