Lyric Opera Cleveland, Northeast Ohio's summer opera company, performing
at the Drury Theatre of the Cleveland Play House, seeks a qualified,
experienced Technical Director for the Summer, 2005 season (June & July,
2005).

Position is a temporary seasonal position.  The position description is

LYRIC OPERA CLEVELAND

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Position Description

Function
To plan and supervise execution of designs (sets, props, lighting, and
sound) for Lyric Opera Cleveland productions, maintain scenery stock and
warehouse and production related spaces, and supervise technical aspects
of performance season.

Responsibilities

TECHNICAL AND PRODUCTION:
1.	Consult with designers and directors in advance to establish
parameters for each production regarding expectations, schedules, style,
function, and the materials and labor budgets.  
2.	Analyze designs to identify potential problems to be resolved.  
3.	Schedule and supervise IATSE labor for scenery load in,
electrics, painting, and run crew. Maintain a working relationship with
the IATSE local office and the crew foreman.  
4.	Provide orientation in Lyric Opera's safety practices and
policies and in other appropriate procedures and policies.
5.	Ensure that all scenery is installed in a timely manner and
meets with director and designer specifications.
6.	Supervise all electrical department activity, ensuring safe and
proper hanging, cabling,	and wiring.  Assist with focus as
needed. Ensure that designer and director expectations are met.
7.	With the Production Stage Manager and the Music Director,
determine the sound reinforcement requirements of each production.
Supervise installation of proper sound reinforcement equipment.
8.	With the Production Stage Manager, set up and choreograph scenic
storage and shifting; 	assist in cast and crew training.  Oversee
changeovers during Tech rehearsals.
9.	Maintain all scenic/technical elements of the production
throughout the performance run.
10.	Attend production meetings and post-production evaluation
sessions.
11.	Attend and participate in technical, and dress rehearsals, and
the accompanying notes sessions; ensure execution of notes.
12.	Maintain records of each production, including, but not limited
to, the number and hours of calls for the IATSE crew, and give to the
Director of Operations.
13.	Maintain a working relationship with the Dept. heads of the
Cleveland Play House and the Production Manager.

ADMINISTRATION:
1.	Assist in preparing weekly budget requests, based on specific
production requirements, maintenance and acquisition needs.
2.	Serve as primary safety officer for all production areas and
production-related activities.
3.	Manage scenic activities within budget parameters established.
Document all expenditures and provide documentation on a weekly basis as
required by the Director of Operations.
4.	In conjunction with other department heads, ensure that the
production areas are adequately supplied and maintained.
5.	Keep production areas clean, uncluttered and safe.
6.	Maintain warehouse and stock in good order.
7.	Handle rental and borrowing of scenery and equipment for Lyric
Opera productions, in consultation with and with approval of the
Director of Operations.  Assure that all rented and borrowed items are
returned in good condition and in a timely manner.
8.	Oversee rentals and loans of scenery and equipment to other
companies.  Establish new rental and cost guidelines as necessary.
9.	Establish working relationships with other companies and vendors
and become familiar with resources to assure availability of materials
and equipment needed.
