Hi everyone,

We had a terrific response to the first mailing and there are a few slots
still open for my ACTING SHAW class.  I hope you can join us.  This is a
class in Comic Technique, using Shaw as a vehicle for putting the theories
of comedy into operation.  Full of laughs and lots of fun!

We're in our new workshops space in Mayfield Village about 1000 feet east of

Acting Shaw is a delightful workshop which focuses on the special techniques
required to act the plays of George Bernard Shaw. Pygmalion, Candida, Caesar
and Cleopatra, Saint Joan, Man and Superman, Major Barbara, The Devil's
Disciple and others are among the plays of Shaw that we will study and use
as material for scene work. 

Acting Shaw requires a heightened sense of language - grappling with an
eloquence you don't usually find in everyday speech. We will grapple with
the internal dynamics of a long speech: linking and building of ideas,
intellectual and emotional persuasiveness, self-generation of thrust and
momentum of a natural build. Our focus is on Shaw's multi-dimensional
characters and their penchant for 'debate': the justification for Shaw's
astonishing sermonizing, with special attention paid to establishing a
personal connection to the comic, the dramatic, and the social conscience
that gives Shaw's comedies their singular flavor. Join us for the challenge
and sheer joy of taking on one of the great roles by GBS!

Exercises in the workshop will focus on vocal technique, comic technique,
characterization and developing the heightened world of the Shavian play.
