CLEVELAND, OH (February 2005)- When playwright/composer George Kukich was=20
commissioned by the=20
St. John Bosco Drama Ministry, he focused his creative energy on=20
incorporating a religious theme into a=20
traditional musical. He researched several different Bible stories with the=
=20
parable of the Prodigal Son=20
eventually winning him over. To add a new twist, Mr. Kukich took the story=20
and set it in 1950=E2=80=99s Cleveland=20
where we meet the Destefano family in their West Side Restaurant. The=20
Prodigal Son takes off for Vegas=20
to make it big in show business. Kukich says, =E2=80=9CThe story is timeless=
: Life=20
can be difficult, but our family=20
grounds us and gives a very special way to share our love with each other. =20
We often get caught up in our=20
own problems, but through our family we are able to fully experience and=20
treasure life. Our family is the=20
pathos of life.=E2=80=9D The playwright is also a big fan of music from the=20=
1950=E2=80=99s=20
and Italian songs by the likes of=20
Louis Prima. Kukich spent many hours listening to Jerry Vale, Lou Monte, an=

the Gaylords to better=20
understand how the mandolin, accordion, and 'sweet amore' fit into the music=

The influences come=20
through in the songs of Prodigal! and the results will be heard in a variety=
=20
of numbers performed by the=20
washed-up nightclub singer character, Bruno Dolce, and the Destefano Family.=
=20
The vocalists are led=20
by Cleveland music veteran Norm Cotone, who also directs a band of=20
professional musicians for the show.
This is St. John Bosco Church=E2=80=99s third musical theater endeavor in t=
he past=20
five years. Specializing in stories with a Biblical or Christian content,=
=20
the St. John Bosco Drama Ministry=E2=80=99s mission is to educate, entertai=
n and=20
spiritually enlighten audiences through musical stories with contemporary r=
elevance=20
for today=E2=80=99s Christians. Professional actors and musicians, many of=
whom=20
belong to the parish, fill out the lead roles in the productions. =20
Prodigal! performance dates are Fridays and Saturdays, March 4, 5, 11, 12,=

18 and 19 with =20
an 8:00 PM curtain each night. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00=20
for students and =20
