About the show:
An obsessive, edgy, womanizing romantic, Bob Fosse was a Broadway legend
even before he collapsed on a Washington D.C. sidewalk at the age of 60.
Sweet Charity, his longest running show ever, concerns the misadventures of the
guileless and gullible Charity Hope Valentine, a "hooker with a heart," who
chronically gives her love and her dreams to the wrong man. Questioning the
limitations of the American Dream and the ideals of fairy-tale romance, the story
unfolds amid the heightened disparities of New York City in the Sixties: the
seedy anonymity of Central Park, big business, the homeless, exclusive night
clubs, and the underground hideaways of jazz-loving, pot-smoking seekers of "the
truth." The brassy, bold score includes "Big Spender," "Rhythm of Life," and
"If My Friends Could See Me Now."
