"...visually handsome, well-acted....In the best tradition of Cleveland
Public Theatre, the city's most nearly avant-garde venue, VENUS turns the
tables on the audience..."
-- Tony Brown, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

"You can't take your eyes off the captivating Nina Domingue....Standouts are
Holly Holsinger's sleazy carnival mother/pimp, Robert J. Williams' emphathic
narrator, and David Loy...the ensemble of freaks/spectators also does strong
work....a strikingly handsome production..."
-- Linda Eisenstein, CoolCleveland.com

You’ve never seen anything like her. She’s an exotic African beauty: the
dark skin, the gorgeous eyes, the full bosom. And she’s a Big Bottomed girl!
A novelty! She’d make a splendid freak. You’re going to want to show her to
everyone. Folks will watch. Folks will clap. Folks will pay you gold.
She’s shy but she’ll do it. She’s hungry for fame, fortune . . . and your
love. Go ahead. Take her on the road! A grandly theatrical portrait of
Sarah Baartman, a.k.a. The Venus Hottentot, from the author of the Pulitzer
Prize-winning play Topdog/Underdog.

"Mixes loopy lyricism and gritty reality...(an) hysterically funny climb
from the depths of despair."
--Tony Brown, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Moving and humorous...frank and unflinching...a beautifully crafted look at
depression and the difficult journey to happiness."
--Linda Eisenstein, CoolCleveland.com

You’ve been feeling a little blue lately. You ended your relationship, you
cry a lot and you’ve dumped a lot of money on self-help books and tapes that
don’t seem to be doing the trick. You’ve aced every exam you’ve ever taken
and now you’ve failed the doctor’s depression test. Should you take the
pills or tough it out on your own? Cleveland playwright Sarah Morton takes
you on a comic and moving journey toward happiness.
