Congratulations to Alex Puette, =20
=20
who has spent much of this year preparing and auditioning for colleges to=20
earn a BFA in musical theatre and has yet to receive a rejection letter from=
=20
the prestigious programs to which he has applied. He is thrilled to have b=
een=20
accepted to the University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music, t=
he=20
University of the Arts, and Point Park University and has decided to go to=20
U. of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music.=20
Alex sent me this letter yesterday after he read Halle Morse' letter=20
(reprinted below) a few days ago, and I want to share it for all young peop=
le ages=20
9-21 in the region who are considering auditioning for Fairmount Performing=
=20
Arts Camp next summer! =20
"After reading Halle's letter, I also wanted to send my own thanks along to=
=20
you. When I auditioned for Fairmount last spring, I didn't realize what I=20
would be getting myself into. I, as well as most of the other students tha=
t=20
attended FPAC last summer, have been involved with many theatre camps over =20=
the=20
past few years. For all I knew, FPAC could have just been any other theatr=
e=20
camp. But it wasn't. Fairmount was a truly different experience. My time=
=20
spent at FPAC was extremely beneficial, from the guest artists to the scene=
=20
study we did with the instructors. Like Halle, I believe that my summer a=
t=20
FPAC really helped me with my college auditions this year, and will continu=
e to=20
help me throughout the rest of my theatre studies. For any student of =20
theatre, especially ones that are trying to pursue it as a career, I can not=
=20
persuade you more emphatically to attend Fairmount Performing Arts Camp. I=20=
am=20
extremely proud to say that I was a part of the first year at FPAC. Thank=
s=20
again Fred for everything! "=20
Alex Puette=20
Alex Puette is finishing up his senior year at Aurora High School and will=20
be a freshman BFA Musical Theatre major at U. of Cincinnati - College=20
Conservatory of Music next year. He is a high honor roll student and is in=
volved in=20
National Honors Society, Key Club, and Leadership Team. Alex has studied th=
e=20
tenor saxophone for 6 years and the piano for 8 years. He has also had=20
extensive training in tap, ballet, modern, and jazz, which he has studied a=
t=20
numerous studios such as Akron Ballet Academy, Sharron's School of Dance,=20
Cleveland City Dance, and Shaker Dance Academy. Alex currently studies priv=
ate voice =20
with Joan Ellison of Baldwin-Wallace College and private acting with Tom =20
Fulton. He has performed at many professional theatrical venues across=20
Northeast Ohio, such as Cain Park, Porthouse Theatre, Willoughby Fine Arts,=
Beck=20
Center, and Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, as well as various community thea=
tres. =20
Favorite roles include: Cabaret (Bobby), Joseph... (Joseph, Gad/Butler),=20
42nd Street (Andy Lee), Grease (Eugene), Once Upon a Mattress (Dauntless),=20
Chicago (Principle Dancer), and Fiddler on the Roof (Bottle Dancer / Villag=
er)=20
with FPAC director Fred Sternfeld. =20

The program: FPAC is an advanced program for young people (grades 4-12 and=20
college students) with professional aspirations. It includes training in=20
Musical Theatre, Contemporary Theatre and Shakespeare. Students will recei=
ve=20
training in all three genres, but may pick an =E2=80=9Cemphasis=E2=80=9D if=
they so desire. The=20
program covers scene study, voice, movement, dance, improvisation, audition=
=20
techniques, speaking verse, script analysis, voice for the stage, movement,=
=20
stage combat and the system of physical action developed by Constantin=20
Stanislavski. As an added bonus, a series of classes and workshops will be=
held=20
during the session that will prepare our older, interested students for=20
professional auditions and the college theatre program application process.=
 A=20
showcase production of Contemporary, Musical Theatre & Shakespeare scenes w=
ill be=20
performed at the end of the session for parents, friends and invited area=20
college educators and theatre professionals.
=20
All new students and 2004 FPAC Production Workshop students are required to=
=20
audition for the camp.=20

Returning students from the 2004 FPAC Professional Training Intensive do NO=
T=20

=E2=80=9CLoved the camp. Taught me a lot about myself. Learned a lot, enj=
oyed =20
teachers and campers.=E2=80=9D =E2=80=9CYa know, FPAC was great last sum=
mer and I'm very=20
happy I did it, especially considering the demanding challenges (COLLEGE=20
AUDITIONS!) I was faced with this year. The program is simply ideal for st=
udents=20
really interested in theatre as a profession; even those looking to partici=
pate=20
as a hobby. There are few educational theatre programs really dedicated to=
=20
teaching youth the "real deal" and preparing them for what may lie ahead. =20
I've done many day camp programs, none offer the acting training that fpac=20
does. The professional atmosphere alone sets the camp apart from others. =20=
I'm=20
excited to see this program grow! I just really wanted to commend you for=20
offering such an excellent program for students. Just my 2 cents, I know y=
ou=20
already know it's fabulous! Thanks again so much for the character analysi=

"We fully expected Fairmount Performing Arts Camp to be fantastic, under th=
e=20
leadership of Fred Sternfeld and his talented staff. However, our daughter=
=E2=80=99s=20
experience far exceeded our expectations. She attended master classes led b=
y=20
some of NE Ohio=E2=80=99s top directors and actors, which taught her new te=
chniques=20
for auditions and performance. She could not wait to get to camp every=20
morning. The campers formed such strong bonds over the 3 week session that=20=
their=20
goodbyes on the last day were full of tears and emotions."

Dear Fred,
I wanted to thank you so much for the wonderful experience I had at camp.=20
I'm so thrilled I got to work with some of the most talented teachers and=20
actors in Cleveland. I feel I have grown so much as an actress, and thanks=20=
to you,=20
CP, Alicia, Doug, Heidi and Sean I now have a "tool box" that I can use for=
=20
the rest of my life. After having the audition workshop with CP, I now feel=
=20
prepared to walk into any audition and know all of the right things to do.=20
Also, through scene study class I learned so much about not judging your=20
character and making strong choices which are both important skills that I=20=
can use=20
for any character I ever play. Not only did I learn a lot, but I also made=20
some of my best friends at camp. I went into camp knowing only a few people=
and=20
came out with 30 close friends who I can depend on and talk to about=20
anything. I wish I was able participate in more than just one session, beca=
use these=20
past three weeks have been an incredible experience that I will remember=20
forever.

Sincerely, =20

=20
Dear Fred,=20
This past summer at Fairmount Performing Arts Camp was a wonderful=20
experience and I thank you so much! Now that I have been in college for a=20=
semester, I=20
am realizing just how valuable the acting training was at FPAC. I am=20
finding that camp has prepared me more for a career in theatre than many of=
my =20
college classes have. FPAC took time to critique each individual student i=
n a=20
supportive, nurturing environment. My college program has neglected to tea=
ch=20
many of the character development concepts and the idea of "behaving =20
truthfully and naturally" as opposed to "acting." I feel so honored to hav=
e gotten=20
the opportunity to work with numerous area professionals last summer, as=20
opposed to the same one or two teachers that are common in the college sett=
ing. =20
Looking back, I know I really would have missed out had I not participated=20=
in=20
FPAC last summer, and I certainly wouldn't be where I am now in terms of my=
=20
acting capabilities. I think that FPAC is certainly valuable for any colle=
ge=20
student who wishes to pursue a career in theatre.=20

Now that I have been in college for a semester, I am realizing just how=

valuable the acting training was at FPAC. I am finding that=20
camp has prepared me more for a career in theatre than many of=
my=20
college classes have. FPAC took time to critique each individual stude=

in a supportive, nurturing environment. My college program has neglect=

to teach many of the character development concepts and the idea of "behavin=

truthfully and naturally" as opposed to "acting." I feel so honored to=

have gotten the opportunity to work with numerous area professionals last=20
summer, as opposed to the same one or two teachers that are common in the=20
college setting. Looking back, I know I really would have missed out h=

in terms of my acting capabilities. I think that FPAC is certainly=20
