George Butiri, the local independent movie producer-writer-director, is proud to announce the world premiere of his first feature-length movie, the cerebral thriller titled “Alone.” The movie will premiere at the Cedar Lee Theater, located at 2163 Lee Road in Cleveland Heights, 44118 (the southeast corner of Cedar Road and Lee Road) for a one time showing on Thursday, April 14, 2005. The program will begin promptly at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend this world premiere screening of “Alone.” Admission is free. Dress casual. This event was originally scheduled for Lakeland Community College on Sunday March 13, 2005 but has been rescheduled due to the improved venue.

Special thanks and event sponsors: Ken Young of Cleveland Cinemas, Mike Ross of Blueize Magazine, Johnny K. Wu of Media Design Imaging.

Before the screening of “Alone,” several shorts and previews of other movie productions will be shown. Some of the previews will include clips from director Johnny Wu’s “A Joker’s Card” and director William Alexander’s “Dead Silent.” After the end of the screenings, questions and comments will be welcomed by all in attendance.

George Butiri founded his Two Martinis Productions in the summer of 2004. His first projects included the shorts “TP (it’s dangerously soft!)” and “Flippin’ U.” Once “TP” was complete, George was ready to try his hand at producing his first feature-length movie, which became “Alone.” The original script, written in the summer of 2004, was only 14 pages long. With the help of some friends and well-known writers (including William Alexander and his writing group) the script for “Alone” ballooned to feature-length and gained much richness of character and depth of story. “Alone,” as completed, has a running time in excess of one hour. The movie was shot entirely on location in and around the Greater Cleveland area, and its cast was exclusively drawn from the wealth of talent available in northeast Ohio.

By using only local cast and crew, George was able to keep the budget down, and the film only cost around $350 to make. Most of the film was shot in a loose, improvisational style, allowing anyone in the cast and crew to make suggestions. Good ideas were used in abundance, and it didn’t matter who made the suggestion. This openness to the script made the story even better.

The basic premise of the film is based on the idea of “Hackers vs. The Mob.” What’s it like to see inside the life of a hacker? What happens when a hacker works for the wrong people and the job goes bad? What does Adia (Shelia Weiss) do when she’s hunted down by Vince (Al Hudson) and his mob? Who’s going to help her when she is left all “Alone”?

George’s shoot-from-the-hip style of directing included such innovations as working on post-production (such as music creation) while still in pre-production. Much of the music was done during the shoot and much of the soundtrack, assisted by Aryavarta Kumar, was complete before the end of production. Editing progressed throughout active production, and by the time the shoot was over there were only minor finishing touches required to polish the movie.

All this from a story that started out as a 14 page script.

Since the release of the preview online at www.twomartinis.com, many have gained interest in seeing the final product. The preview has been shown several times at the Indie Club at Talkies, where it gained even more attention from Cleveland’s thriving film community.
