Montgomery was awarded "Best Acoustic Guitar Player" for the seventh
consecutive year at the Austin Music Awards in March, 2004. He was
listed in "Guitar Player Magazine" as one of America's Top 50 All-Time
Greatest Guitarists.=20
In a review of his work, "Acoustic Guitar Magazine" says, "Monte
Montgomery is not your typical up-and-coming guitar god. His
exquisitely crafted, melodically and rhythmically sophisticated pop
songs suggest the best of Fleetwood Mac, Squeeze and The Police, while
just happening to integrate the most mind-boggling guitar work in the
State of Texas."
Bill Payne of "Little Feat" says, "Monte Montgomery is a must see.
He is the best acoustic guitar rock and roll player I have ever heard.
He lives and breaths musical phrasings that are impeccable. His
lightning fast licks envelope a selection of notes and rhythmical flow
that belie how quickly a human being can think and play. He is
absolutely solid in drawing out hypnotic and languid lines, too. For
the fortunate listener it is a roller coaster ride. Monte provides a
staggering performance. He is a great singer and song writer on top of
everything else. I envy the person hearing him for the first time."

Montgomery has played professionally since his mid-teens in bands in
Austin and in San Antonio, Texas. At that time, he played both electric
and acoustic guitar, but began to focus on his acoustic work when he
started leading his own band. The audience response to the acoustical
sets was so positive; he felt there was no need to continue with the
electric.
