Brian Sharp - Round Trip

=20

CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 5th, 2005) - Shifting from painting, drawing, and =
sculpture Brian Sharp's work is connected by a sensibility rather than a =
style. As an artist, Sharp shares his observations as he navigates =
through his surroundings. While he slows the viewer down he exposes us =
to his acute perception of interactions, objects, and interpretations.=20

=20

Although he highlights what seems simplistic in his mind or eye, his =
lens is incredibly selective. The sights and forms that Sharp introduces =
are not unattainable to a viewer; he supplies us with clues, visual and =
textual, that tap into a collective (un)consciousness of a shared visual =
language. Throughout his work we are presented with situations that are =
introspective yet familiar, from subjects that are mostly unconsidered. =

=20

Sharp's work raises questions of what should be seen; from an often =
overlooked public sculpture to a dinner napkin to song lyrics. There is =
humor in the work; a kind of wit that outlasts wit, for wit has an =
answer, and here, questions still arise. Although the work can take on a =
swift appearance his sensitive application seems intentionally specific =
and strengthens notions of rethinking and response.=20

=20

Round Trip presents new works from 2004-2005. The title is =
multi-layered, suggesting both a mental relocation to a previously =
employed method of art making and a geographical relocation back to =
Northeast Ohio.=20

=20

Born in Akron, Ohio, Brian Sharp received a BFA in painting and drawing =
from the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and an MFA in painting =
and drawing from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. In =
late 2004, Sharp returned to the area after residing in upstate New =
York, Memphis, and San Antonio. His work has recently been included in =
exhibitions in Los Angeles, Seattle, Memphis, and Miami.

=20

Brian Sharp will be showing from March 11-April 10, 2005 at raw & co. =
gallery, located at 1009 Kenilworth Ave, in Tremont.=20

=20

The opening reception is Friday March 18th from 6-10 pm.
