Composed of many of the finest freelance musicians in the area,=20
CityMusic Cleveland is dedicated to building new audiences for=20
classical music. The ensemble performs FREE concerts around Northeast=20
Ohio and collaborates with community development organizations and=20
leaders to strengthen the cultural excellence of their communities. By=20=

removing geographic and financial barriers to concert attendance,=20
CityMusic strives to nurture appreciation for live classical=20
performance (and other cultural events) and create the next generation=20=

of arts patrons.

Violin soloist Jinjoo Cho is a 16-year-old student in the Cleveland=20
Institute of Music Young Artist Program, where she studies with Paul=20
Kantor. "I went to a lesson of his when I was at Aspen Music Festival,=20=

and I just loved him," recalls Jinjoo. She found him so inspiring that=20=

she moved to Ohio from her home in Seoul, Korea, to study with him at=20
CIM. She began the study of violin when she was five years old. Her=20
mother wanted her to be a scientist but encouraged her to take violin,=20=

because Albert Einstein played the instrument. "I ended up liking it,=20
so I kept at it," she said. She has done more than keep at it: she was=20=

the winner of the CIM Concerto Competition and performed with the CIM=20
Orchestra; she has also served as concertmistress for the Cleveland=20
Orchestra Youth Orchestra and soloist in the Cleveland Orchestra's=20
Education Concerts at Severance Hall. Just last week, she won the=20
prestigious Stulberg International String Competition!

Guest conductor James Gaffigan currently serves as Assistant Conductor=20=

of the Cleveland Orchestra and as Music Director of the Cleveland=20
Orchestra Youth Orchestra, having been appointed to these posts by=20
Franz Welser-M=F6st in June 2003. Mr. Gaffigan made his Cleveland=20
Orchestra debut at the Blossom Festival in 2002, conducting a=20
performance of Tchaikovsky=92s Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy as part=20=

of a collaboration between The Cleveland Orchestra and the Aspen Music=20=

Festival and School. During the summers of 2000-2002, he was a=20
conducting fellow at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen, which=20=

is directed by David Zinman. In 2002, Mr. Gaffigan was the recipient of=20=

the first Robert Harth Conducting Award at Aspen. During the summer of=20=

2003, he attended Tanglewood as a conducting fellow. In September 2004,=20=

Mr. Gaffigan was one of two first prize winners at the Sir Georg Solti=20=

International Conductors=92 Competition.

For the upcoming concerts, CityMusic Cleveland features 24 musicians,=20
with Hanne-Berit Hahnemann as concertmaster. Among the other founding=20
players of the orchestra are flutist Heidi Ruby-Kushious, cellist Rene=20=

Schiffer, oboist Becky Schweigert, and bassist Tracy Rowell. President=20=

of the board is physician Ronald Strauss, a dedicated amateur=20
violinist.=20
